You absolutely must upgrade your brakes or you will end up in two minds.
If you literally do go for RS2 brakes it will cost loads because you'll be into new hubs and wheels and you'll end up with old fashioned split calipers.
The way to go is to buy Boxster S or 996 front calipers, use the same adaptor bracket as the RS2 did or get a pair from Bambridge on this forum and Audi A8 314 mm or 324 mm front discs.
That way you can keep your original 16 inch wheels and hubs (use 314 mm discs), get more modern monoblock calipers and there's no need to change your rear brakes or master cylinder.
That's what I and many folks on here have done and you'll find loads of posts about how to do it all for around £650.

If you dont upgrade your brakes you more than likely wont have your car for long
First job to do is upgrade the brakes on a standard car let alone a car running an RS2 engine set up!!!!
You can keep your standard 16" wheels if you go for the Mov-it set up like i did ((13 years ago) and run 323mm discs. People say it cant or shouldnt be done but ive never had any problems running 323mm discsComment

There is just enough room to run Boxster S calipers, 16 inch wheels and the standard RS2 bracket but it doesn't leave any room for stones or any distortion of your rim.
Either use Bambridge's bracket which is designed to give more clearance and 314mm discs or 10mm hubcentric wheel spacers which is what I did.

As it's my 1000th post
or should that be
it might be helpful to explain that there are two clearance issues:
The first is whether the disc will foul the inside of the caliper, that's where the 314 mm disc helps over the 323 mm one but if you use a 314 mm disc the friction material on the pad runs up to/over the outside edge of the disc - but so what?
The second is whether the outside of the caliper will foul the inside of a 16 inch rim. With the RS2 adapter bracket it is very close with Audi Avus rims; maybe too close for aftermarket brands. If you use the Bambridge bracket to mount the caliper to the strut the caliper is nearer the centre of the hub so you end up with more wheel clearance but I assume 314 mm discs become a must. A 10 mm hub-centric spacer like i've used helps because it pulls the narrowest part of the inside of the rim away from the caliper.

Get new brakes! I have 400 hp on my aby coupe with 18" OZ wheels and I was thinking of keeping the stock brakes to keep the weight of the car low. It's impossible to enjoy the car with the original brakes and so much power. I have now RS2 brakes and they do the job.Comment

996 Brake upgrade
I have just completed the 996 Upgrade on my third S2 by following all the good advice and guides provided by the forum (thanks to all on that) After a bit of tinkering following a fairly straight forward job the brakes are a VAST improvement to the stock girlings. Used braided brake lines and no issues with flex or spongy brakes just instant and superb braking. Probably worth checking brake lines periodically as mine seem a tad long and may rub on suspension but keeping an eye on that. My only issue is a bit of brake squeel. Used red stuff pads and anti squeel shims plus a bit of copper grease but still a bit of noise when braking. Can put up with that for now but may try some different pads maybe ferodo.
