    Hi wise sages?

I have just entered the dark zone of S2 ownership,
1991 black with black leather coupe
    96000 k/m
Standing 4 years no rust inland South Africa
Bog standard no modification ( as yet found )
First task will be replacing corroded sensors, brittle connections.
replacing broken after run pump was removing water hose sheared off on neck.
What would be the correct line of attack after 4 years off road to return the car to be a weekend warrior. Final note drained cooling system No additives found?

Hi and welcome. First thing is to read the codes, You can ether blink the codes or down load a light version of vagcome from Rosstec, and use it with some cables of ebay.
There are post on hear on how to do it, jus t d o a search. Have a look at Central net.
Good info on there. Its a lot cheaper to find out what's wrong ,if anything, rather than just replacing things, that can be quite expensive. Good luck.

      Welcome!
Sounds like you have found a rare low mileage 3B there
We love pictures so post some up when you have time

      I would do the following:

Change cambelt & associated jobs i.e. crank sprocket, idler pulley etc.
Remove discs & pads and clean them up. Check calipers for sticky pistons & slider pins.
Check brake hoses & lines for problems.
      Refit & bleed brakes thoroughly
Drain oil, change oil & filter
Drain coolant, refill with pure water & flushing additive
Remove plugs & crank engine on starter until you see good oil pressure
      Fit new plugs
Start engine & run up to temp to check for leaks
      Drive 50 miles or so
      Check codes
Drain cooling system & refill with proper coolant mix
      Change oil & filter again.
Resolve any sensor & running issues

Be prepared for some electrical gremlins, these cars don't tend to like being stood unused for long periods.

        Good advice given above.

I would also keep and eye on welsh plugs. Had one go on me and not much fun to replace, so would change all, the first time engine has to be removed.

        I'm in Cape Town.

Thank's for the welcome guys, Ryss I am in Randburg
          The gremlins have struck.See photo
MFTS so corroded you can see the damage
As stated I damaged the after run pump trying to remove the hose
After run pump switch also has issues.
Does anyone know how to remove the sender unit under the header tank ( I will from now on be moving with more care)
My master plan is to remove the main and AC radiators to give me access to the sensor,s. Replace damaged ones clean others.Check wiring, connections and hoses.
Put it back together clean cooling system then run codes.( After obtaining the cables and soft wear )S2 Problems.jpg

Welcome Vette, you can bypass that afterun pump for the time being with a bit of 22mm plumbing pipe Lucky you tugged on it now rather than with your head under the bonnet when the engine was hot

There's a lot of info about rewiring the MFTS on here and which brands of replacement to avoid.

Get some pics of the car up.

Hmm! Took mine out today. Pipes were loose but pump is ceased.

Have not looked for a replacement yet, but If i find something will let you know. Plastic parts also in a sad state.

IIRC The afterrun pump is the same as a VW T4 transporter should you have problems finding one.
