Took the car to MRC this morning and left with both front side windows open to accomodate my smile
Approx 290ish BHP now and so much smoother.
Chuffed to bit's - me
Thanks again

Ive been fitting my 5x Stainless steel rings i fabricated into the MAF to turbo rubber convoluted hose today as advised to by Doug. I was getting a fluttering under boost and he thought it may have been this pipe being sucked in by the excessive boost.
Boost is now 1.4BAR and it holds it very very well for a 100K engine right into high revs.
As for speed past the sign - we didn't really go for out and out speed up the hill, we knew it was quicker than when we turned up, and Doug said that my ECU wasn't one you could tune with the laptop - all the tuning was done upstairs in his loft with the ECU out of the car and hooked up to the PC. The car hesitated a bit on 3rd gear boost when the chip's where first fitted but a couple of 'up the loft' trips soon cured that
All in all, very pleased

This is interesting..... does this mean that it is a slightly modified generic map?
Chris
(I understand by definition all maps are basically a modified existing or generic map, but this was not 'real time' mapped, correct?)

No, thinking about it, it wasn't 'real time mapped' and I did pay for that!
Am I correct in the assumption that my ECU (Motronic ECU, AAN engine) can be real time mapped?
Right, this is what happened:-
Myself and my mate, Jim, got there at 09:45 to be met by a smiling Scotsman
After a VAG-COM check for fault codes, which turned up none, and a quick look at the stats with the engine running, We went out for a spin up the 'test track' with Doug's boost gauge fitted to the car as I have seen 1.2BAR displayed (actually displayed 2.2BAR) on the red digital boost gauge before and he did wonder whether it was already mapped. It was only actually doing the stock 0.9BAR according to his gauge as it seems the 1.2BAR I had seen may have been a result the air filter problem I had covered on another thread on this forum.
So - we ascertained that it was stock apart from the FMIC, RV and Ex Pipe.
He then asked me what fuel I had in it. I replied with half a tank of 95RON. Not good!!
Should be at least 98RON. Didn't know this so we went and put £25 of 98 in.
Doug then removed the ECU and fitted the sockets and new chips.
We took it out for a spin and it was hesitating in 3rd up the hill. We came back and after a few refits of the ECU and it not starting because of a 'wrong checksum' problem, Doug explained, the ECU was refitted and out we went.
It was certainly a lot better but it did still hesitate a little and still does every now and again - maybe a gob full of the 95RON still in there? I don't know?
Anyway, I was happy that it was going quicker and by this time Doug had 3 other customers patiently waiting for his attention. He billed us up, money was paid (the stage II custom re-map price) and we left.
Have I had what I was supposed to get? Did I get a custom re-map?
Thanks
Jim

Can anyone help here as to what I should have had or what I did have was correct?
Is my ECU 'on the fly' mappable?
Thanks

It sounds like a combination of the two to me. A generic map would have been fitted and that's that apart from some possible fettling under the bonnet. Although this was not realtime mapped with a laptop, it sounds like Doug had a few goes at modifying the map in the "loft"
I think it would be best for Doug to comment on this really though.
Cheers,
Steve.

Just spoke to Doug and It's re-booked in for tomorrow (Tues 30th) for him to sort it out.
Apparently he didn't have the correct stuff there at the time to enable him to real time re-map.
Wish he would have told me that before I went on Saturday as I would have asked to re-book.
Thanks for the info people
