How can I insure my urquattro???

I bought my 20v urquattro with me from New Zealand with the intention of getting it on the road here and enjoying the driving pleasure only a quattro can give.
Well,it appears I cant!!No insurance company I have contacted in the UK,including classic insurers, wants to know about it!The car is ex UK,so was registered here before being shipped to NZ some years ago.
The car is lowered, chipped and has an aftermarket exhaust,so its not standard, but its not a race car either!I have a NZ licence,no no claims bonus, and no way of proving my good driving record from NZ.
I only want third party insurance, will drive it only a maximum of 6000 miles a year, will park it off the road and Im 56 years of age and have not had an accident for over 30 years!!!It makes no difference.
To say the least,Im really pissed off!!!
Since I only want third party, fire and theft insurance,I obviously dont want to pay an arm or any other part of my body to insure it.The fact is they dont have to cover me for anything, only third parties. But it makes no difference, the car does not seem to be insurable, for me,in the UK.
What do I do now???Any constructive help would be appreciated.
    Rex

      Hi Rex,
      Sounds like a real PITA!.
Have you tried Livingstones Warman at all?
They have a scheme especially for Audi quattro's (mostly through the quattro Owners Club) so they may be a bit more sympathetic to your needs.

Footman & James could worth a try too. http://www.footmanjames.co.uk/

Hopefully they may give you at least some guidance if not cover.

I can't imagine it being a problem once the car is registered in the UK again.

Try Adrian Flux. They have always been able to insure me and are more specialist that some of the high street names...

          Good luck

          Cheers,

          Steve.

Unfortunatly I cant register it until I have insurance. Its a viscious circle!I have the previous UK registration plate number for their reference but that really does not help.Lancaster, well know for classic insurance, were a total waste of time.

I agree with fatty, A Flux are normally very good with modified and unusual stuff, also try Chris Knott as they now do a deal through Audi Owners Club (www.audifans.net)

                        ok. Try

www.elephant.co.uk (part of admiral group.....online internet quotes only.....Maybe it wont rip you off because computers are not very clever )

Also... Footman James (my S2 classic insurer) are definately worth a punt

Then try Liverpool Victoria (very cheap usually)

THEN// get a home car traders policy (try WAB for info) and you should be insured under that I think....about £1500 though,,,,

ps//// Dont mention the exhaust (swap it if it bothers you to standard or add on to the policy as an addition once its sorted)

When my wife brought her Porsche back from Germany on German plates, it was insured on the german plates until it was registered in the UK, also it can be insured using the VIN as when my wife bought her bike it was an import and had to go through bunch of inspections and stuff so we got insurance against the VIN number

It's still puzzling me why you would want to move to the UK...

Having just got back from a visit to NZ, in comparison England is overpopulated, scenically challenged, with a climate that's all over the place, full of chavs, yobs and ignorant t055ers, and is run by self-interested, morally challenged politicians.

I'd happily leave it all behind to only have to put up with disgruntled Maoris, graffiti, idiot tourists overunning the quiet roads with campervans and (slightly) less self-interested morally challenged politicians, if it weren't for family ties.
