In your car it should be just behind the brake fluid deposit.

That's a really good point, the chassis number should be stamped into bulk head at the top just to the right of brake fluid reservoir. Though I have seen these cut out and swapped from car to car.

That's only on the later cars mate, I don't know what date it change position, sometime in the mid 1990's though.

My '91 coupe has one.... as well as one on the firewall, and the VIN plate.

Really, I've not seen one with a chassis number in both positions before, you learn something everyday....

I think my 92 3B has the VIN in the little window in the windscreen too, not 100% though and the car is not here at the mo.
Pete Berry said once that early S2s were considered a bit of a “parts bin special” and there were lots of variations in build, it’s possible this one never had a strut brace..

I’ve got early 3b , registered 02/01/91 , vin number is on the bulk head and not in the windscreen window
