Erm......having a chat with the other half and we're thinking that it's an oil sump but when you look at the engine pics on Audi we can't really find the exact bit that you are on about it doesn't appear to be listed which is a bit strange as normally etka shows it but you can't flip the image around to show the underneath

Thats where I got to looking at the FA, it appears to channel the oil drained from the head from one end of the engine to the other but I'm not sure why. On the TDi there is no windage tray so it can't be re-fitted, just wondered what the consequences might be?
Looking at other pics of the S2 engine it appears that this has nothing attached to it, so I'm guessing it'll be fine.sigpic

Looking at this picture of Stu's 3B, there is nothing on the S2 so I assume it should be fine.

could it be simple to move the vent for the crank case out of the path of the oil thrown off the crank. May be the longer stroke of the deisel crank throws the oil straight up the vent. And they had to move it forward as there couldn't just extend it because of clearance with the sump.never set your expectations to high that way you are never disapointed

Little bit old topic, but could be used this diesel breather block on diesel engine block (aat) with oil windage tray and 7A oil sump? I forget to check it and assembled engine without this breather and before a while I remeber on thisAudi Coupe Quattro 2.3 20V
