Mine had this same symptom and it was the pipe coming from the bottom of the clear plastic coolant header tank that was broken, I had to buy a new tank. -
Thanks for the info, i will check that. I just dont understand why this suddenly happens. Is it possible that it happened due to the highter coolant level in the tank, higher pressure?. I also find the minimum level on the tank pretty high, it is almost at the top of the tank. Isnt there something of a pressure valve in the system?Originally posted by newshMine had this same symptom and it was the pipe coming from the bottom of the clear plastic coolant header tank that was broken, I had to buy a new tank.Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project

I bought some stuff for in the radiator which will close the leak. I put it in and till now it is not leaking anymore. Tomorrow a friend of my will bring the car to audi parts in Erp. I hope they have time to check the engine and the rest of the car and replace the oil, oilfilter, coolant and the most of the belts. I found also a really small leak in the hose from the filter to the turbo.
Does someone know approximate what it will cost to replace the drive belt?Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project

Can someone tell me how the normal engine goes threw the revs, from 2500 to 7000. At the beginning when i got the car the engine made strange, more heavy, noise when it reached 4500 revs. Now that I drove 400 km the engine sounds better in higher revs. Could it be that the car got "lazy" because the previous owner did not drove the car highter then 4000revs. Besides that the car had done maybe a few honderd km's in a year. The last 6 months only 140 km.
I bought a bottle of engine cleaning, I put it in my tank together with ron 98 I hope this will clean the engine and let it run better in high revs.Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project

Heyy Erik,
Too bad of the problems with your S2...
Hasn't the drive belt been changed yet? Change it immediately!; because Audi wants them changed every 120.000 km. Last week I heard a story of A3 1.8 20V driver that his belt has broken after "only" 111.000km... result : 20 bend valves and a damaged head.
I calculated eur 600,- a few months ago for this job since my car has done 125.000km ( at this moment ) as wel; but luckily my belt had been changed when it was imported from Germany in 99 ( at 58.000 km ). Next year I'am going to replace it because of the age.
When you get your car back from Audiparts they'll tel you wat was wrong.
Good luck!

At the moment we are checking the engine especially all the hoses. A lot of the canvas hoses are leak or stand in corners of over 90 degrees. Are these hoses important, could it be that one of those hoses go to the ECU.
I also openend the ECU, to see if it is tuned, but I cant seem to get the printplates from eachother? what is the best way. How can I see if is is tuned?Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project

The easiest way to check if your car is chipped is to install a boost gauge - something you would want to do in any case! If the car boosts more than a standard one would, it is most likely chipped.Originally posted by ErikbI also openend the ECU, to see if it is tuned, but I cant seem to get the printplates from eachother? what is the best way. Yesterday I installed a boost gauge in my car, I connected it by using a T-connector to the hose which is running to the ECU. As far as I know the turbo delivers the boost which a normal car has to deliver. When I give full throttle the boost start with 0,5 bar, then to 0,8 bar and then decrease when you go to high revs. But the problem is that the car isn’t accelerating good in higher revs. In the 4th gear I almost cant get it higher then 5.000 revs.
Someone an idea was can cause this problem?
I did a ride in the evening a day before yesterday when I came back and opened the bonnet the turbo was glowing red, is this normal?. Also the hose for the air supply to the air filter, which runs from the front of the car to the air filter is not mounted on the car. So the car sucks the air right next to the turbo, this cant be good also.Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project

so when it gets to 5000 rpm does it loose all boost?
i had this problem, it was an air leak before the turbo, gets to 5krpm then looses all boost so wont rev over 5k rpm.
on mine it was the small hose from the turbo cold side to the WGFV, i couldnt see a hole in it but replaced it with some rubber hose i had and it sorted the problem.

As far as I have seen it holds the boost. I dont think it has to do something with the boost. I am just wondering if it is running lean, maybe this can also cause the turbo to glow. The next thing i wanted to do is to clean the MAF and replace the lambda. I hope this will do the job. I will test it with my gtech pro competition and try to get dyno out of it which I will show on the forumOriginally posted by martinjsso when it gets to 5000 rpm does it loose all boost?

à just have another question (again, sorry that I ask that many questions). On most s2 engines which I have seen on the net I didnt saw the small pressure hose conected to the wastegate, on top of it. Can someone tell me where this is hose is for. At my engine there is a hose conected to it.
Thanks in advance

The hose runs from the top of the wg to the front of the car then goes sides the engine in a small plastic cap to the back of the engine.Originally posted by Dr HThere shoudn't be a hose connected to this, if you mean the brass tube coming out of the WG cap.
Where does the other end of the hose go to?

For example on these engine, I dont see the hose connected to it.Getting everything sorted out for my 5++ hp project
