      • Well I have been fighting with the electrics and have basically rewired the whole car and renewed all of the looms with fresh cloth tape as mine had gone dry and just crumbled away.

No photos as it just looks like a load of spaghetti as anyone who has dealt with audi looms will know.

Meanwhile now we have done our final Land Rover chassis swap of the year I have two days to play on my own car .

So tonight's task was to fit the heated seat elements in to the rear seat base....

I had removed some elements from some really tatty S2 front seats many moons ago. After painstakingly separating the foam that is glued to the elements I sat them in position on the bare foam of the rear seat.

I traced out the heating element so as to not cut through in the wrong place....

After trial and error of positioning where I could attach and fold the element without damage I then copied this to the other side...

I don't know what the writing is all about in red however guess it must have been written from factory.

Then an hour or two later the leather was re attached....

So now have the facility for rear occupants to have a toasty posterior

Just the back rests to do now

        • This is becoming epic!!!!
Danny from DNA offered for me to have the use of his garage as I have no room at work with customers cars etc.
So transported my car to Nottingham yesterday afternoon. And spent the whole day working on my own car with no customers coming to the counter and no customers ringing my phone it was great

So job number 1 yesterday was to quickly swap the front subframe for the newly galvanised one.

How wrong could I be! The old subframe was off in the blink of an eye.

I am fitting solid subframe mounts on the front to match the rear. I have had these aluminium bushes sat on my shelf for over a year waiting to go on. The packet clearly says 10mm which is the bolt size for the front subframe on a 3B car.
However on removal from the bag found them to be 12mm , so after finding some later ABY front bolts. I proceeded to drill out and re tap the chassis legs at the front where the subframe mounts. This was a little awkward to do as 3 of the inserts move around to allow for minor differences in subframes.

Then as I was unable to get my carpet to fit correctly the choice was made to remove the Heaterbox again!!!!!

Once removed I found a little more wiring I could do, a little more tidying and a little more re routing of the looms to make it as tidy as possible. Also run the loom for wideband Lambda which is for VEMS

The heater box and carpet was then fitted followed by the dash....

Meanwhile Danny carried on doing plumbing in the engine and fitted my standard PCV system with all new stainless fittings, my turbo water and oil pipes and the downpipe flexi, alternator, starter motor, water rail etc.

It does not sound like we managed loads but when everything is painted it takes longer as you don't want to scratch anything

          • When it comes to wiring the EGT sensor I would suggest to add an extension if possible to the existing vems plug in order to allow easy replacing of the probe without having to feed it all the time through the engine into the car. They tend to wear out frequently. Don't know why and I always had to use a straight hanger to feed It in the car

Too right, I am sick of the sight of it. No matter how many times I rerouted it and tried to lay it across the top of the tunnel there was just no physical possibility that I could fit the plastic wiring guide over the top so that got slung and I just used the Audi tie back clips to do it as neat as possible.

It was also a pleasure to hack the alarm system to pieces give it correct feeds and earths and generally shorten all of the **** wiring and make a nice little loom for that.

The space under my dash now looks so much tidyer considering how much extra stuff there is under there.

And I am amazed how much wasted space there is behind the airbox! I can lay on my back in the drivers footwell and physically get my whole arm back there behind it.

And when looking from drivers side to passenger side behind the centre console I can now see straight through

Just need to sort the rest of my climate as I still can't quite get my head round it.

I took a look at Jamo's old car last night to see where bits went but that is a different system again! And that coupled with it looks even more of a rats best behind that dash I just gave up on that for now and will have to revisit it later on.

                • That's something I desperately need to do with my car if the dash comes off at some point as being a conversion it was all just thrown in as you have noticed.

                    • In dozens...

That's why I hope it's done as a complete job. Such as new car transplant or chassis paint or something. Been watching overhauling too much me thinks

                      • And the end of another long day....

I am pleased to report she is now running....
On Motronic at the moment however looking forward to swapping to VEMS.

A fair few jobs still await but it's pretty close now. I am having a massive lay in, but will be back at it tomorrow afternoon.

Big thanks to Damir and Nemo for your assistance.
