That’s what Superchips did back in the day, they unplug the wgfv and wind the wastegate spring perch right in via that bolt. -
You probably need a Newsh or similar who may well have seen such shenanigans.Leave a comment:

Just found this…
https://www.s2forum.com/forum/techni...ate#post215138
last post suggests it’s something a ‘period’ tuner might have done.
I’ve not seen it before TBH, so wouldn’t suggest undoing it (the big one) in case it changes the boost setting.
Normally it’s just the 6 nuts that release it.Leave a comment:

It’s quite straight forward, just the 6 nuts. Couple of caveats. If the spring is still in there it’ll be forcing the cap up, so can ‘ping’ the last bolt off. I undo all six half way, then 5 off so you’re only managing one whilst pushing down on the cap to prevent it from going ‘boing’ and losing the nut.
Similarly, putting an old towel or similar around it saves heartache if you do drop a nut.
Refitting is the same really, cap on, compress spring with cap and get first bolt on, then work it down progressively from there.
Hopefully you’ve got a spring.
Also, have a quick S2Forum ‘search’ for wastegate. There’ll be plenty of tips and tricks or indeed interesting horror stories.Leave a comment:

I’d have a quick look inside first to see if there’s even a spring. There was a (horror) photo on here about a year ago of someone (apologies, can’t remember whom) who found no spring and something like a 24mm socket holding the wastegate shut.Leave a comment:

No pipe attaches there, but my god, what is going on with that wastegate!!!!
For reference this is what ours looks like…

And I suspect most S2’s do. OE there wouldn’t have been a hole in the top.Last edited by Ian Simmonds; 14 October 2021, 12:32.Leave a comment:

Can someone tell me if I'm missing a pipe of the wastegate? Kind of looks like a vent pipe

That's the wrong diagram for the ABY engine. There is a tensioner bolted to the block rather than the earlier type shown there with it on the oil pumpLeave a comment:

Save money by painting the subframes too. I didn't powder coat mine as powder coat can chip easily.
I painted them with smoothrite. 3 years on they are still nice and shiny. Admittedly I don't drive it in the rain and they were solid to start with. But I still got a very good finish for a few hours with wire brushes/flap wheels etc ..
oh and there's no way you'll keep the car standard, the Porsche monoblock brake conversion is a must imo

I'd just slow down a little, I'd say my car is pristine with nearly all the parts being replaced refurbed or upgraded. It took years to get that way though..Leave a comment:
