there are a few methods ive seen. most are not suitable to the road.

the beauty of the eaton is it can in some instaces be gated also so you can use the gate to provide the transitional period which is the usual problem then stop the clutched pulley once the bleed off is complete.

there a big 80-20 rule on here.

      You're right

Shame as usual the FIAT managers made another of their fantastic jobs.....
They simply let the patent of the system expiry few years ago......
Hence VW just went for it.

      O.T.
Another big mistake made by those "managers" was the Common Rail issue....
They invent it and then they faced 3 options

      1) carry on developing it and selling the Common Rail parts to everyone
      2) get some "royalties" for every common rail built by other car brands
      3) sell the project patent and everything.... the all lot...

they of course went for the third option and made if i remember well not more then 10 millions euro.......

On TV interview with the chief engineer in charge for the Common Rail project he declared that when they went to the executive managers with job done
These so called managers once they discovered the potentials of the system they hardly believe it...... so they came out with something like: "are you telling us we have been better then the Germans?"

I would go the 2.6 stroker route and lighten up the bottom end and flywheel so it revs quicker. Reducing lag as it would be on boost quicker in theory. Some people use NOS to combat lag.... But not cheap to run or not the best if a road car.

Cams could also help reduce lag.
