I've just bought left and right rods from Parts Daddy, not cheap, might get them powder coated so they last more than 15 years

If you heat the rod and nut in an oven there will be no benefit, cos both parts expand uniformly and the rust still grips.
Once they're off and overhaulled get a role of denso tape after they have been set up, wrap denso tape around the whole assembly on the car. denso tape lasts donkeys years and is impervious to water, salt, grit,--everything, even a jet wash if wrapped well. Its what they use on pier warricks which are exposed to the sea for life.

This stuff is used on buried ferrous pipework too, can vouch for the protection of this stuff, carbon steel pipes that are years old can look as new if they've been wrapped properly, didn't even cross my mind.

        Genius

Good luck putting it on though, Yuck!!!!

To put it on use a wooden board, roll it out onto the board and with a sharp stanley knife slice off lengths which will do 3 or 4 revolutions of the parts your protecting, wrap it round and knead it into itself so it looks smooth. It will out last copper slip, anti sieze compound, the pyramids of egypt, and the great wall of china. Plus on components which should be mounted dry it can still be used as it does not enter the threads in use.

Ill give my local factors a call on monday, they deal with QH and have sourced stuff in a couple of days for me in the past. Shouldnt be a problem.

BTW, that Q-PID live catalouge from QH is very handy indeed, if only it showed prices too.

I'm tempted to fit a rubber sleeve over the tie rod and cable clip over the top to try and stop and much water and crap getting onto them between adjustments.

Youd tend to find that the parts would corrode faster as condensation gets trapped inside the rubber sleeve, the same as the old cars with plastic wheel arch extensions rot out under the plastic, and door bump strips (The vertical ones on the trailin edge) always rot out.
Heat shrink tubing might work, but if you need to adjust it you have to slice it then strip it apart to put some new heat shrink tube on.

Strip and copper grease first then loads of waxoil is the best bet.
