    Ur quattro not starting

Hi there guys thought i would some brains here went down to my local Audi dealer about two months ago and the had a late F reg UR Quattro 20v RR there with a starting problem the owner had a problem with the electronic dash going off and on he decided to take it apart took all the connections off and put it back together, then it started to have a starting fault it would just not start (i think the dash and the starting fault is a freeky coincidence)
Anyway i took look at the car and told them to check the hall sender on the distributor and check the flywheel pin and a couple of other things
Went in today and low and behold the car is still there so into the workshop i go and started to speak to the lad and he said they took the distributor out and the drive n the end had broken up so they changed it and low and behold it started but then it would just die and not start again they have had a sparky out and he can not find a single fault in the wiring the ECU has been on a test bench for 3hrs no fault at all
Oh one more thing the after run pump is running even though the water temp is cold
I have been asked to to take a look at the car by the workshop manager as our workshops are across from each other and they know i do a lot of the older audi's they dont see anymore thought i would ask if anybody has a idea before i start stripping the car to bits

    Any thoughts guys

I was speaking to the owner of this car a couple of weeks ago by complete co-incedence, I think that he is getting a little hacked off with how long it has been at the garage.

Understandable but the owner has been pulling plugs here and there as well but audi have not got a clue they just keep throwing the car out if they have other more pressing work to do

If the dizzy has been off, first thing I'd do is check the static timing is spot on. Check the earth wires on the IM and pull the codes.

Is it a 20v transplant? don't think you can get a 20v on an F plate. Late G, H and the odd J plate but not F.

I thought the exact same thing but when you put the reg in the audi database low and behold it says engine code RR i thought the same as you before i opened the bonnet i was expecting a 10v turbo and there was a 20v facing me which i thought was well odd ?
I thought maybe it had been a transplant and thats why they are getting no where with sorting it

              Cheers Raj

Interesting never seen an F plate one before.

Incidentally and to answer you original question!! it sounds fuel related to me..

                        Right were shall i start
                        new distributor has been fitted
one of the sensors on the gearbox replaced
                        one coil replaced
complete wiring checked by a specialist (reputable person lots of experience)
ECU sent away twice on the second occasion left on test for 3hrs

after the distributor was replaced the car started and ran for a good 15 mins then just shutdown and has started once more since then, there is fuel pressure there is a spark( i have been assured but not checked by me) but i wonder if it is this rogue spark immobiliser/alarm been removed flywheel timing pin is present
I noticed that the after run water circulating pump was running which i thought was strange considering the fluid was stone cold and the engine had not even started

AM Cars apparently have a G-reg MB for sale at the mo.

And no RR would have been originally registered on an 'F' plate sorry Amanda

                              Well...

if the wiring has been checked and the sensors by the auto electrician why is the after run pump still going...

This is quite a simple circuit of sensor, relay and pump i think, check with s2central. When the temp goes above a certain point, ignition off the ecu picks this up and switches the relay on to power the pump...really s2central please correct me...

I would start with this fault as it seems to be the simplest...famous last words. May even cure the biggy.

What is the imobilizer wired in to, starter, spark or fuel? If fitted of course.
