Wouldn't be a goer IMO, the engine is so damn heavy! only in something like a Golf shell.

In an S2 forget it go insane on engine mods instead.

The S2 engine weighs a ton mate, it really is quite beastly.

This has been done a few time before with other cars, the one i remember well was a golf .

The thing was very quick, however it was taken to santa pod raceway and a 600bhp shorty quattro still beet it .

Dialynx also did a twin engine TT with 2 400 bhp 20v turbo motors.

Unfortunately for anyone wanting to do this now it can't be used on the road as they have changed the law.
I havent researched the law on this myself, i was told this by a freind who was planning a twin bike engined car and he was told by the relivent people (VOSA i think ) that this was no longer allowed.
This is because as the car would be highly modified it would then be classed as a kit car and be subject to an SVA test so i belive.

i believe the issue is that both engines must be mechanically linked, ie same gearbox, or at least joined input shafts....if it is illegal its only a recent thing as there is a company that puts two bike engines into a 7 style car, tiger i think....but they share 1 gearbox

                  its not illegal.

you need to have a firewall between you and the engine in the back. just like you need one between you and the engine in the front.

nobody want a lump of cast iron in the back do they after its been blown out of an engine along with a few litres of hot oil

I have never ever understood why people would do this apart from to break silly drag records in a something like a Golf.

It must make the car sooo impractical, noisy, heavy, unreliable and just about everything that an S2 isn't...

                    God I'm getting old....

thought about it... sure... I also thought about Lewis Hamilton's girlfriend and.. oh wait, let's not go off topic ...

with the engine in lengthwise, there is very little room available in the former passenger compartment (yes, I went as far as holding a yardstick there), the S2's engine is rather long. with the sideways orientation in the TT, A3, etc, this is less a problem.

if the managed to get it legal in germany, there should be no problem whatsoever to get it legal in the UK....

but what you're thinking off is something like the 2CV Sahara, but then somewhat faster?

anyone rememebr the 2cv that was turbo charged.

it went to 60 in about 20 seconds i think which was around twice as fast as a standard one.

it set on fire as the ducting was cardeboard

i ve now thought about extending the wheelbase to stretch the engine compartment
only having a mid mounted engine
putting tt style front lights on it
some nice scoops on the side to let air in
                            very wide tyres and...
may as well save up for an R8!

was only thoughts, I ve not got time to finish my white quattro let alone anything else!

The main practical reasoning for two engines is simply the easy availability of obtaining more power.

But in almost every circumstance you can consider, one engine with twice the power is so much better than two engines.
