  • ABY Dipstick oil leak

This is the second ABY motor i have found this problem so thought it was worth a mention.

The dipstick tube has a small rubber seal where it joins onto the block, part number N90461401. The first ABY i dismantled was missing the seal which i later found inside the sump. And when i was cleaning the S2 motor i noticed the block was covered in oil around the hole. Sure enough when i removed the dipstick tube i found the remains of a mangled seal in there. Worth checking if your working in that area

I have a new one somewhere so when i find it i'll post up measurements.

    Mark.

Found it, ID is 9.5mm and about 2.5mm thick. Having said that i think its too big for the job.

For the first attempt i slid it onto the dipstick tube and found there was no way it was ever going to slide inside the hole. Second attempt i pushed it down inside the hole and found there was no way the tube was ever going to fit in. Third attempt i crushed it between the tube and block at the very top.

If i had a box of o-rings to play with i would have used too, one slightly smaller to fit down inside the hole, then another at the top like i ended up doing. Either way its sealed so job done.

Does anyone know whether the piece which protrudes from the block, to attach the dipstick tube into is removable? If so, does anyone have one they can take a picture of and provide measurements? I think I may need one of these for a block I'm using for a rebuild, but can't find a part number for it. Parts album shows it as included with the block.

Thanks. I need this piece which doesn't appear to be available as a replacement part. I guess I'm looking for someone who has a damaged block, who will sell this part. Or someone who has one that I can make a copy from

Part No 30 which I can't find a part number for. Any ideas, #30 doesn't show on any of the family albums I can find online..

Is it screwed in or pressed in?
I have a spare bottom end I could borrow it from for you but can’t see how it comes out.

There's no screw thread in the block, so I assume it's a press fit. Never removed one.

Steve I have a scrap AAN block which I will remove it from for you - its away being hot tanked at the moment. Once its back I'll get it out for you - it's just pressed in.
I'll also model it so I can make some replacements.
