Its not often lately that I go on ebay but thought i'd go on there for a new set of rims for on the avant. Found the set that I was after finally after a few weeks searching and was watching the auction, sent an email to the seller asking what fitment was which he replied was right for my car.
Asked him since there was not much interest in the rims if he was interested in ending early so I didn't miss out on the rims, he agrees so I went up last night to pick up the rims which all seems to go ok and they are loaded up easily in the back of the avant, it being dark I didn't get a chance to check them over properly and he did mention that two of the tyres was on the limit on the inside edge which I thought was fine.
After a bit of a nightmare journey home last night (don't ask my fault
) I decided to get up early this morning to fit them, when I went and got the first rim out the car (with one of the decent tyres on I might add) I thought it was a bit wierd that it was flat and when I checked so was a couple of the other rims. I tried pumping up the one wheel with a incar pump thingy and apart from it killing this I found that it had been stabbed on the sidewall to make the tyre useless.
I took the rest of the rims down to the local garage to use the pump there and found all the other tyres have been done in an identical way all thru the sidewall with what looks to be a small screwdriver. I didn't mind as much about the two low tread tyres but the other two was practically new and I can't see what he gained by doing this to the tyres? If he wanted more for the rims he should have said when I asked him what he wanted, now i've got the fun of finding some new tyres to replace these.
I've been tempted to run slightly wider tyres at the rear on the avant:
front - 205/40/17
rear - 225/40/17
anyone think of any problems with this setup? I know the tyres will fit on the rear with it being lowered with no problems just want to check.
Ebays really going downhill
