  • audi VIN decoder

Nope, I don’t need link to decode them, i already got a few.
Actually I’m working on one (a detailed one)

    VIN WAUFC5441KN032051
    DECODED 1989 Audi 200
    Country GERMANY
    Make Audi
    Vehicle Type Passenger Car
    Trim Level Turbo
Restraint System Dual Air Bag; Side Air Bag
    Model 200
    Check Digit 1
    Model Year 1989
    Assy. Plant Neckarsulm
    Production Seq. Number 032051
    Body Type 4 Door Sedan
    Engine Type L5, 2.2L; Turbo
    Drive Line Type FWD
    Fuel Type Gasoline
    Horsepower 162HP
    Vehicle Class Mid-size Car
Manufacturer Audi NSU Auto Union AG
and Paul told me if i can make something useful he will add to his site. He also told me the 4-8 digits are different in the USA.
I doubt it and I want to prove it or accept it.

I need a little help; I need a few European Audi VINs for testing purpose. I live in the usa (I’m Hungarian originally) and I can get a lots of usa Audi VINs (from auctions/dealer sites )

Can you guys give me a few links for site like that? Or just a few VINs.
    Thank you.

ps: I already made a small php script to check the 9th digit and its working.
As we know the first 3 digits (WMI) are easy.
From 10 to 17 (VIS) are also easy.
The tricky one is between 4 to 8 (VDS) which tells you a lot. That’s why I need those VINs to check it.
My good friend of mine is working in the Hungarian Audi Factory and he gave me few (unofficial) hints:

There used to be an unbelieveably detailed VIN decoder available out of Romania. It told you the day in a particular week your car was built, the colour and all the options that it had. Like a fool, I didn't capture the results for my 93 UrS4. Now that site doesn't work at all any more. I must have been tied into a VAG data base it was that good.

      Model Jetta
      Check Digit X
      Model Year 2002
      Assy. Plant Wolfsburg
      Production Seq. Number 606923

      Trim Level GLS TDI
      Horsepower 90HP

I sent you a PM back Varia - good luck with this one. Pretty sure the extended VINs only apply to US cars - but I'll happily add links to my site when you have your decoder working. It is amazing how much EMail I get from around the world with Q's about my VIN decoder (that Sonic re-wrote cos I broke it once).

          You mean the 4-8 digits?

If i remember correctly, UsS6 Plus VIN code should start with WUA(Quattro Gmbh) not WAU. But for some reason, the Decoder does not understand that.

Also, #1 should be country code (W for germany) and #2-3 should be for manufacturer(AU for Audi, UA for Quattro Gmbh)

                    Or have I forgotten something?

                    Code:
                    Digit(s)	Parameter	Code(s)	Meaning
1-2	Country	WU	Invalid country code for Audi
3	Manufacturer	A	Unknown code (Not valid for Audi)

                      Not really.

                      WUA should be WAU because:

                      1.digit Manufacturing Country W - Germany, WEST
                      2.digit Manufacturer Code A - AUDI, V-VW
3.digit Vehicle Type U - Passenger Car (Audi), W - Passenger Car (VW)

                        Nope.
WUA is certanly for Quattro Gmbh cars for example UrS6 Plus(regular UrS6 is WAU still), newer S and RS models, R8 and Q7 V12 TDI.

Vin decoding sheet taken from another board i found, when searching for WUA VIN Code explanation:
                        http://www.r8talk.com/gallery/data/5...9_VIN_Card.jpg

Link to that topic. Note several posted Audi R8 VIN codes that are all WUA not WAU.

Intersting... I seem to recall someone sending me an R8 VIN once and I was convinced they had swapped the A and U round - but now it makes sense.

You are right, my friend at audi confirmed that in same cases they are using the first 3 digits TOGETHER as a code, not individually, like in the past.

He also told me that the VIN is a very complex thing because the 4 different standards and limitations, they are running out of options, slowly.

                            Code:
"There are at least four competing standards used to calculate VIN worldwide.
The VIN system used in Canada and the USA is specified by FMVSS 115, Part 565,
while ISO Standard 3779 is used in Europe and most other parts of the world. The
third standard is SAE J853, which is similar to the ISO standard, as is ADR 43 used in
Australia. Of the four standards, the FMVSS is the most stringent and applies to all
cars made or sold in North America. Each standard requires that the VIN be 17
characters in length and specifies how the VIN should be fixed to the vehicle. The
standards differ with respect to the information contained in the VIN and the order of
this information. FMVSS 115 is the only one that
specifies that manufacturers reserve a character position in the VIN for the coding of
information concerning restraint features fitted to the vehicle. The ISO and SAE
Standards (which are in common use in parts of the world not including North America)
do not make the recording of safety information compulsory. All standards mandate
that the VIN begins with a three-character code that uniquely identifies the
manufacturer of the vehicle. What follows is a brief summary of the different
standards for VIN in use around the world. "
Thats why I need those Europian VINs...

Is there an online Vin decoder (possibly not free) that can tell me weather an Audi is an S-line version or not?
