    Failing Hall Senders

My S6 is still parked up with a faulty Camshaft sensor and its definitely heat that affects mine. It works a treat until the engines hot and then dies a death. Pour enough water over it to cool it down and its fine to get you started again. Wouldn't be so bad if you didn't loose the electronic boost as soon as the sensor fails. Turns the car from a joy to just ok..

Not uncommon for sensors to fail like that. I had an Omega 2.5 diesel which would not start when hot and that was also a failed sensor (in the pump this time) and I had to carry gallons of water around to get it cool enough to work. Vauxhall Steelers would not believe me until I forced a mechanic to try and move the car armed only with the key, a bag of frozen sweetcorn and a bag of frozen peas.. Interestingly the sweetcorn seemed to do the trick.

I took that to mean peaing on you diesel pump is not the thing to do.....

Oh... Now been waiting 7 weeks for a boost pipe from the Audi Steelers.... I cant believe that they have even ordered the bl**dy hose after all this time.

Just off the phone to them, the fuel pump had gone, so there is one arriving tomorrow hopefully. Then it's off to find the strange noise coming off of it.
Raj - don't think there is anything i need brought down, cheers though! Unless you have some unhangover pills! Haha.

        Fuel pump - really ?
Just failed there and then ? I suppose like all electrical faults its possible, but is a bit of an odd one...

As its a new garage to you - make sure they hand you back the old pump... ask for it in advance to avoid the 'sorry mate we threw it in the bin routine' so at least you know they have renewed it - even if they only really changed the fuel pump fuse !!!!

Oh the other thing... do they REALLY know its the fuel pump ?

If the ECU isn't activating the fuel pump, then it wont run... Things like a dead crank rpm sensor will do this... The fuel pump is shut off by the ECU if it doesnt think the engine is running... But a less experienced eye might not think to check for that.

Just in case you get the 'we changed the fuel pump but its still not starting' routine

According to them there is power to the pump but it's doing nothing.

                Aye, forgot to update...
Car is running fine now, apart from the strange squeak, which they are looking into just now. They replaced a steering damper that had no fluid in it anymore. Deutchtek were very good, guy seemed sound and knowledgable, i'll be using them again. Labour rate was £50-55p/hour, can't remember exactly.

Glad to hear, i was just seeking this thread out to ask how you got on with DeutchTek. So they sound ok!
Just good to have in the reserve, you know "just incase!"
