The joy of owning an S2...

Another run home in the big yellow lorry with the flashing lights tonight. Non-starting problem. Spinning over, but like it's getting no fuel. People i've spoken to reckon hall-sender, so i've left it in to Deutchtek in Glasgow to see how they get on with it.
On a handy note it was already booked in tomorrow anyway, so no big deal.Only problem was the 8 hours it has taken me to get from Aberdeen to Glasgow on the back of various recovery trucks.
If anyone is interested i'll update when a problem is found and review my experience with Deutchtek as it's the first time i've used them.

Not good ...sounds like hall sender ...8 hours wow thats snail pace ...fingers crossed its a easy fix ..If they are replacing the hall sender I would get them to replace the camshaft seal while they are there as I had just done my hall sender couple of weeks ago and seal was slightly seeping and fouling sender to

Cam or crank position senders. Worth giving the plugs at the back of the engine a wiggle in case it's a loose connection, I've got an intermittent connection in or around the crank sender plug that causes non-starting every now and again, no running probs tho, which is a little surprising (would cause boost control cut, so 0.4bar). Got a replacement plug and loom repair section on the way to me. Good luck with the new garage.

Not really, it's only got 20k on it. I was under the (probably mistaken) impression that the belt had to be off to do it. Great news if it doesn't though.

You are correct in that the belt does have to come off but when I did mine I just marked it. Took the belt off the camshaft pulley, removed the pulley and then removed the hall sender which sits behind the pulley.

Looking back it wasn't too tough a job. The hall sender was about £120 but that was from VAGparts.

                Hope it gets sorted.

get whoever it is to see if its logged the hall sender error before you start splashing out on bits, should be able to bump start it as well, buy the hall sender direct from bosch (approx £65) if you need it.

Try to WATER remedy on your hall sender next time, to get you going again... it works great and no-one seems to know why!!!

I got the idea from people on the S2Forum... Just carry a bottle of water in the car. When it won't start (my intermitemtn fault was once a week for about four weeks til I got the part changed) you open the bonnet and pour half a litre of water down the back of the cambelt cover. For some reason the car then starts.

Cold weather seemed to make my prob more frequent, and hot water cured it quicker.
                    SOLD !

It could be due to magnetic flux being more efficient in water than air, thus the signal is stronger... could...

more importantly you will need to update us on the noise coming from the offside front area because that was weird especially when you could see no physical reason.
Will need to know so i can do a mental log if i get another S2 coming in for work with the same fault
By the way i am in Glasgow next week need anything taken down ??

                            cheers Raj
