Check the PN, I think the wide one is 055905225B and the proper narrow one for a 3B is 052905225C. But don't believe me. Check. The proper one should have a tip that is about 10 or 11 mm wide.Last edited by UrS4boy; 12 November 2009, 06:28.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Just modify the wide one you have to the correct width, taking equal amount from both sides... job done...

Check the distributor gear as well. Probably made out of plastic and might be cracked or sloppy.
This and spark hop can kill the 3B engines by making the plug fire way before it should.Last edited by EspenW; 12 November 2009, 10:47.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

There was a thread on here not so long ago about modding the wide tipped rotor by just removing the leading edge, so any spark hop happened in the non-compressed cylinder that has already fired - did anyone do any conclusive testing of that?Martin Cutting

I can tomorrow write down here the BOSCH part number for the proper rotor tip and the not proper one too. It's on my ex-Coupè's modifications notebook! But there's a post somewhere on the forum with the part numbers anyway! cheers!- Looking for a S2

Part of the problem is that the wrong, wide tipped rotor will come up as the correct one on that nifty computerized data thingy that the dealers use. This little mistake has blown a surprising amount of engines, especially when boost is upped.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

I started taking the car to bits and can see the extent of the dameage. You can actually see right through the block as it holed both sides and also the sump and windage tray. I'm hoping the head is not too damaged so i can have a spare for the golf.
As suggested before it might have the wrong rotor arm fitted but as you can see in the picture it's the narrow type, looks about 10mm to me.
Also the big end looks suprisingly good condition, this confirms to me that it was not a bearing failure that caused the fail.

The rotor looks as if it's never been changed, can you measure the resistance from center to tip, should be ~1000 ohm. If there's a bad connection there the spark will try to find a path of smaller resistance and..Leif-Helge
