Still crunching thru mega workload here guys so continued apologies for not being online much this week. Plan is to catch up on PMs over the weekend on priority basis.

Anyway - here's something to brighten your day/night... I'm not long home from a trip to Dublin, but I actually came home on a flatbed trailer.

Long story short - I had a catastrophic timing belt failure on the V6 quattro at ~80mph in the fast lane of a dual carriageway tonight... leaving me utterly stranded 40 miles from home on the hard shoulder. I forgot to renew the RAC membership so thank goodness for friends of friends who have a flatbed and the gumption to come get me on a cold Friday night. That is true friendship for you.

I think I heard some rattling after the thing went bang so I bet I have banana'd some valves - pretty sure its an interference engine. According to service sticker the belt was changed before I got the car, but who really knows. I give up - no point stressing about it.

Any plans for getting it sorted out or is it now off the the great scrapyard in the sky?

Glad to see someone else is stupidly manic work wise at the moment, not been on much recently as work slowly consumes every useful minute of the day. Poor old S2 is on the drive with the tide in at the moment and the fan out so no imminent chance of taking it out for a ragging to destress me either

Not good, But saw a couple standing in a layby on the A90 yesterday watching there car burn as a fire engine approched so could have been worse I suppose.

Had the timing belt go in a old ford CVH, tried to bump start it a few times before I realised the belt was snapped Doh!

Gutted for you Paul - i had EXACTLY the same with my V6Q a few years ago - lots of bent valves

I slotted another lump in there, luckily they are cheap and easy to get hold of

The 30V V6 option as great appeal I must say... Doubt the pennies will stretch for it, but I'd be fairly sure of sourcing another AAH engine for ~same money as stripping and repairing two heads on that one.

I can't even bear to open it up at the moment.

i think the tensioner failed on mine as the belt looked fine
