Sorry to hear about all the problems, i've luckily not been driving any of my own cars lately, one's being sprayed, the s2 ain't picked up yet and my daily's been for the mot today so thats been a slight bonus, till I saw my insurance renewel form when I got home - 3x what it cost me on the s2 and half the points i had, guess i'll be shopping around asap.

Interesting that we're both on F1 Asymmetrics... I couldn't have been doing more than 5 mph.
Oh no not you too Seems like its not too bad though hopefully just the ball joint pushed into the wishbone..

If you unplug the maf you can drive with the ic hose disconnected. Might suck up some snow but should be ok.
Cheers Bo, BTW that is a top tip!

Thanks guys for all your well wishes, the car is bodged up and going ok I think, got up early and repaired the bumper with ally sheet and self tappers.. Oil cooler bracket straightened as best I can.. I might do a boost leak test if I have time tomorrow. The IC has a pretty big ding in the bottom and a hefty mark on the back from the bottom pulley but no whistling noises on boost, not that I've floored it yet ..

Yeah I was pretty lucky in terms of damage I guess.

I got a pic of the IC, didn't get it together to take pics at the "scene", was the last thing on my mind at the time, would have been funny now though

Unlucky fellas, hope you both get it sorted soon....

Try driving this through the snow....[306]:mischeif:

It's my daily, as if my daily commutes weren't difficult enough with the rear end being dropped 80-90mm, and the splitter touching almost anything not to mention the xhaust heat shield... Now it's turned into a feckin snow plow!

All the snow that's left in the middle of the lane is getting to be a right PITA! All i can hear is thud thud thud, and if you could hear me it'd be alot of french!...

Having said that she's not too bad going around sideways if the level if snow/sludge permits

Cheers Rocco, yeah, really looking forward to Christmas and having some time off its been a busy year

There is an issue with the bonnet not closing down all the way on the driver's side, I think the slam panel has come up a bit on that side, so its not closing completely, will investigate further..

If its any consolation my intercooler has a similar dent in it, it don't leak and you can't see it with the bumper on so who cares

Driver's side front wishbone and ball joints all in spected and all looks OK. As suspected, lower ball joint was fully inboard so pulled it out 1/4" and dropped the car, still toe out so pulled it all the way. I had guessed that the wheel was 2-3 deg toe out (as it was noticable but not major) and this lead to a fag packet calculation of 10mm at the ball joint, I think it's moved about that much (1/2" max) and certainly drives pretty much as straight as before. Spoke to the chap who did the 4 wheel alignment and he can fit it in between Christmas and New year so I'll get the tarcking and camber all checked over, the wheel checked for straightness and swap to the spare if required (which needs painting). If I'm going on track next year then I'll replace the wishbone and ball joint as a matter of course but as long as it feels tight, I'll leave it as is for now.

On the look out for some winter wheels now, lowered suspension, silly RARB, 17s and 225s have robbed the quattro of any all weather capability and that's no good... either steels or Avii going on there, quite excited about putting it back to stock, they look proper old skool with the 16s

Ah yeah - your super stiff ARBs won't be helping the handling in snow - something softer is better of course, but the tyres are the main thing IMHO. Glad to hear you just knocked off the alignment and didn't bend anything expensive. Good luck well deserved there buddy !

Well I got to Cornwall ok but the car was whooshing a bit on hills and used a lot of petrol.. Brought the boost leak test kit with me so it's down to the garage to borrow the air line in the morning.
