I read an article that may of been linked off here saying that your covered 3rd party at the Ring no matter what it says on your documents.
I don't know where the hell I read it but I do know that when I had a "incident" the matter was dealt with by my insurer who claimed they would not cover the Nordschliefe, obviously you don't want to ask but as its a road and NOT a race track it basically meant that they could not get out of it due to foreign some law.
I could well be wrong and I don't expect any insurer to admit to it but its worth looking into, obviously in a ideal world you want fully comp cover to cover yourself but you will pay for that, usually on a daily basis and its not overly cheap.
My understanding is that UK insurers have a legal requirement to provide the minimum cover required by law in other EU countries, or the minimum cover required by UK law if that is greater.
Any exclusion in the policy deeming to remove this cover is unenforceable.
So... yes, technically your car insurer is bound to pay for 3rd party costs (i.e that GT3RS that you wiped out, and all his medical bills). They are not bound to cover your car by this law, although you may be arguing against the EU cover they provide if its comprehensive.
The germans have proved very effective at getting this out of UK insurers when it comes to the crunch. The downside is that there is almost certainly a clause in your policy that says they can recover costs from you in this kind of event. So you may end up getting sued, and so far the insurance ombudsman has sided with the insurer.
There is little point trying to argue with an insurer about this. If at first they are not going to provide you with nurburgring cover, then lecturing them about their legal responsibilities, which they are aware of anyway, is not going to change that.
