Previous owner of my 80 TDi project.
Expanding foam used to "fix" a leak through the bonnet cable next to the fuse box.

Yay, Great idea only it meant you couldn't get in the fuse box or do anything at all to the underside of the fusebox. Oh, it didn't fix the leak either.

I'd started to chop it all out when I took the picture.

On the way to the alps on a skiing trip in the ur the fuel pressure reg split its diaphagm and the engine died with fuel ******* out onto the road. We stripped the valve and replaced the diaphragm with one cut from the Joker from a pack of plastic playing cards, lasted the 100 miles to Chamonix (this bodge became known as "playing the joker" of course) When the same thing happened on my mates car (they're prone to it..) we tried a different bodge, bolting the 2 banjos together and bending one of the lines and poking the loop through a ring spanner. By sliding the ring spanner back and forth to adjust the amount of kink in the pipe we could adjust the fuel pressure to get the car to run well enough to get us to our destination.

I once had tha pleasure of owning brittish layland car (wont mention the model for risk of embarrassment).

Anyway the rear trailing arms were totally Fu**ed with loads of play and it was obvious this would be an mot fail.

The trailing arms were the needle roller type with a grease nipples on the shaft end (like a mini but it's not a mini if you know what i mean) and a guy at work told me a trick.

Find a grease gun you dont mind throwing away and fill it to the top with freshly mixed body filler, and get pumping quick before it goes too stiff to go through the gun.

There you go, two rear trailing arms fully refurbd or so the local mot tester thinks.

My mate has a polo with a rattly rear door card so instead of fixing it properly he got some dry wall scews and screwed the thing on to the car! Has done the job really well except for the one that has the sharp end sticking out into the door shut for the front passenger door and keeps attacking people lol!

I am known for not giving a f*!@ about my daily driver

It continues to defy logic but a couple of MOT's ago, it failed for having some defect with the rear number plate. They put a new one on and it fell off a week later. It has been held on ever since with the same 2 pieces of duct tape and has just recently gone through another MOT like this. I cannot bring myself to pull it off and sort it out properly. That tape has done so well it must stay.

Cable ties are awful but they are never around when there is actually a temporary requirement for one. Couple of years back, I was driving down some dual carriageway in Canterbury on the way to the golf Open. My rear exhaust section split away from the centre pipe and ended up dragging down the road at 80mph. Ovvo pulled over and could find nothing suitable to tie the exhaust back up with. Ended up having to butcher a carp sack which had a fairly hardcore looking rope handle in order to effect a very temporary fix. It got us to the camp site, the golf course and unbelievably back to Oxfordshire.

Dont get me started on my mates Dad. He is a farmer and in his opinion, "everything" can be fixed with bale stwine.

                                Fuse box mod

One of my mates had fuel pump relay issues ,and had to bypass the relay. To turn on the fuel pump he fitted this switch lol.I suggested fitting a bathroom pull cord switch so he could turn it on and off from inside the car to save him lifting the bonnet. Oh boy!
