I did start off by looking for a 3B as they seemed cheaper, in particular that example. Its been up for sale since I started looking a few months back. I got talked out of a 3B by a few people on here, I would intend to get an ABY, de-cat (I can get it an MOT without a problem) and then fit the lighter-weight SM flywheel. The spark hop issure did worry me aswell, I wouldn't dismiss owning a 3B but it wouldn't be my ideal choice (I dont want this to become another 3B vs ABY debate though!!)
struggling to buy an S2, what should I pay? please help!

yeah you'd definately be better off buying a tidy, well looked after 3b than a thrashed and dented up ABY. I think I've eliminated any of the cars for sale from Alltype, I was only interested in the silver one really but after finding out its up for nearly 3 times what he paid for it
and hes got the cheek to say the sound system it was already fitted with is available for extra cash
Back to the one for sale from AM cars then, since that is the only one left lol... can anyone else say they've seen it up for sale for as long as 2 years? Surely there must be something wrong with it if this is true? either that or the asking price is simply far too high and he's not willing to budgeComment

I can confirm this car has been up for sale for a long time, not sure exactly how long tho, (over a year i think) I looked at the car a while ago, (not to buy it) and it seemed ok. the price is high but it is from a specialist, Im sure there might be a deal to be had. I think he has got a coupe rs2 interia for sale which you could try and get him to throw in for the full priceyeah you'd definately be better off buying a tidy, well looked after 3b than a thrashed and dented up ABY. ok thats cool. Do you remember anything about the car? good, bad or unusual? what are the wheels as he says there "17 inch alloys"? I'll give him a call tomorow but thought you might be able to give me some honest info first!!I can confirm this car has been up for sale for a long time, not sure exactly how long tho, (over a year i think) I looked at the car a while ago, (not to buy it) and it seemed ok. the price is high but it is from a specialist, Im sure there might be a deal to be had. I havent looked at it for a while but think it has standard 16" wheels, dont know why it says 17". Brakes are standard, i think most of the car is. I expect the paintwork will be spot on as he has got a paint booth. If you give them some notice ur coming they will get it of the front forcourt and you may be able to put it on the ramp to look at the underside.Comment

Nice one, I'll give him a call and go for a look today or tomorow. It's only about 80 miles from me.I havent looked at it for a while but think it has standard 16" wheels, dont know why it says 17". There was a forum member on here who advertised the car for £2k and it was bought by alltype for £1900. I'm sure it was worth more but I would feel like a mug paying over £5 grand for it.
I saw that come up straight away, looks good for the money but he's mentioned it comes with 2 new wings to replace the originals, and he hasn't given the mileage in the advertSeen this one....????

added to that its 709 miles from where I live
!! It would have to be a MINT low mileage car for me to go that far!

when i bought my mint s2 2 days before xmas i flew from devon to aberdeen then drove it back. what you have to bare in mind is that S2's are rare as hens teeth and you have to be prepared to travel to find a good one.

Don't forget the examples out there that have many many modifications already done, It can save you a fortune in the end....

I expect I would have already bought that car if it had done half the miles. I know mileage isn't everything and that mechanical condition and bodywork comes first etc etc, BUT, if I came to sell it when its closer to £250k, I know I'd really struggle trying to convince prospective buyers its still a good car. It does seem that people are very picky when looking to buy an s2, because there are so many examples that have been for sale for months on end. ....you definatly wouldn't see a 2 door mk2 escort up for sale for that long, even if it was over-pricedDon't forget the examples out there that have many many modifications already done, It can save you a fortune in the end....

The 55,000mile one on pistonheads has sold but a little bird told me that he got the car off his dad for £3500 and his dad got it off a chap for £2500. as it was sat in his garage for ten years with a nacked fuel pump[.being in the trade helps]So they are out there you just got to be luckyeah, that one for sale on auto-trader does look abit dodgey on closer inspection. The nearside front headlight looks to be out of place aswell and the trim below it is missing also, including all the other bits mentioned, probably worth a miss. Green certainly isn't my first choice of colour either.
The blue one from classiccarsforsale.co.uk is starting to look more appealing, just not sure at £6k, maybe if he'd had it up for a while he'd get shot for £5k, but it hasn't been on sale for a week yet! That minter on pistonheads for £6.5K with 55'000 certainly makes it look expensive aswel!
O Well £5OOO or £6000 it is then
But if i do hear of one i.ll pm you i promise
