Cheers for the comments guys!! Hopefully I'll be able to do most of the work on the car, otherwise combined with the 20mpg economy it will cripple me (definately worth it though!!)

I spent all day yesterday removing the dodgey alarm system, halfway through I realised there where TWO seperate alarm systems (one not working but still wired in) and an old hands-free kit, what a nightmare!! Some off the damage can be seen in the pic....

Many hours where spent removing electrical tape, crimp connectors and scotch lock connecters, then re-soldering joints with heat shrink!! Some may think I'm wrong but I always say that getting an after-market alarm system fitted is one of the worst things you can do to a car; trim clips where broken off, pieces where glued on with silicon and half the interior was held on with self tapping wood screws!! Not to mention the holes in the dashboard and A-post covers made for sensors... Bloody cowboys!! anyway thats sorted now, next thing on the list is cleaning. I'll get some pictures up soon!!

A chip is on the to-do list. Bit worried about the brakes though... even with standard power there crap!! So it seems I've stated abit of a mini-project. I'll start a new thread somewhere for anyone who wants to watch it progress!!

Oh and Mr Alltype Cars (Ash) is actually a nice chap. I will warn you though, prepared to be VERY jelous if you see his collection of cars.

There was a pearl white low mileage and kingfisher on pistonheads half a year ago... very clean from pics and the prices were very fair IMHO. I have to admit that the prices are far fairer on the UK side than it is on the Euro side. Look through autoscout.de for a lhd S2 and your eyes will pop that is if your into mint body and interior. The prices on the UK side will eventually pick back up and these cars will finally become coveted as they deserve.
        Cheers mis amigos,

Unfortunately no the prices wont go back up IMO, the price of the newer audi cars is driving down the price of S2's take the S4 2.7 bi-turbos they are going between 3-5k for standard spec, couple in that the price of petrol is rising motoring is no longer for fun and a lot of people are selling performance cars for a mundane run about.

            Welcome to the club.

Take a look at the 996 upgrade thread, a very good a common brake upgrade.

Or, for the more distinguished gentleman:

            Then move onto the rears

Congrats on buying the best variant of S2 there is!

Watch out for the slippery slope of upgrades!

they learn in time, notice that people move from Coupes to Avants and not the other way round?

I do miss my Coupe but the Avant does handle 10x better due to better rear end setup

Anyhow that wiring looked a nightmare!!

Long list of mods to do I reckon, before you chip it get samco or roose boost hoses that can cope with the extra boost and the mark h intercooler mod.

Brakes are a must, common option are boxters s calipers

When people get old they also move from Pubs to Tea rooms. I don't think that necessarily means Tea rooms are better than pubs though...

What has a pub and tea room to do with a car?

Now I'm no professor of the English language, but I do believe it was an (attempt at an) analogy.

Sorry for the poor quality of my analogy, is this one any better:

Young girls wear short skirts because they want to look good, but when things have started to sag they prefer something more practical like a pair of trousers with big pockets?
