    alltype

If Alltype car,s have bought a motor cheep then good for them. The person who sold the car to them obviously was happy to do so or he wouldn,t have. They need to make a living and they take a gamble on ever car they by.If you like a car they have dont be put of because they got it cheap, you restrict your own search ability.Have a look! you don,t have to by it ,but he is trade so you do have some come back if you get problems with the car.I don,t no the person who runs Alltype cars but he is a car saleman just see how he is. He maybe a top bloke you pays your money you take your chance.Having said that i wish you all the best in finding the motor you want good luck Happy hunting:mischeif:

This car used to belong to Doug_RS2, S2ant and Girl racer on the forum, it had a lot of work on it down the years.

I know however this car was in an accident and has been repaired after it was sold by Girlracer.

Inspect it prior to purchase, if it's been repaired properly there will be no issue

maybe best to try alternative places now. the forums can be insestuous to an extent and cars tend not to leave them often.

finding a non member non enthusuiast S2 maybe your answer. problem is theres the likes of alltypes and am who scour the country for cars from this type of seller to make a profit from an enthusiast.

thing with these is there is no real set value. you may find the same condition for 2k difference. mileage is almost irrelevent. drive the cars tells you lots more than a miles list. ie a 90k car maybe's not done enough over the 15 years so is tight in the engine, loose in the bushes and suspension wheras at 125k it may have all been done.

Hi all, I too am currently looking for an S2, but there are so many high miler's out there.

I have between 6 and 7k to spend, but it is finding the right one with reasonable mileage, and in good nick! I find myself trawling though piston heads and autotrader every night praying for the perfect example to come up.

Any tips on where to look and what is the ideal specs to look for if you have 7k.

              Thanks

Agree with gazza people have different values and many different opinions on their pride and joy. Ive had mine for nearly 10 years and if someone offered me even £7k id laugh at them because they so rare now so many of us are now under the opinion if we sell what would you get for your £5k or £6k???

That is incredible, I guess I need to save a little more then for my perfect example. I am very patient so i am sure i will find it, in the mean time I will just read as much as i can on the forums.

Well ...... I went to see the one at AM cars first which was up for £4995 (thought that was a good start since on the website it said £5995) it's a greyish colour, not really blue. It had surely been re-sprayed at some point (to a fairly good standard) but it went like a golf gti. He kept saying "thats what they go like mate, they don't feel very quick" Well I'm sorry but it wasn't quick atall. I started to wonder if S2s really are all that. I felt abit dispondent and starting looking at ibiza cupras. I came to my senses again and decided that it can't have been running right so I decided to look at some more S2s and drive a different one.

I kept kicking myself when I missed a black ABY on pistonheads. It was sold within about 45 minutes to Mr Alltype cars for £3500. It looked like exactly what I was after, my first choice of colour, engine, trim and wheels. GRRRRR!!!!!

Anyway, 2 weeks later it comes up on pistonheads for sale again for £4995 I thought even if I had rung the bloke who had it for sale originally, I probably wouldn't have been able to go and get it straight away, so Mr Alltype (Ash) would have beeten me to it anyway.

I decided to go and look at it and it wasn't as tidy as I'd hoped. The front bumper has been badly sprayed (needs replacing really) and there is bubbling on the rear quarter below the window rubber, above the windscreen and on the front wheel arches.

I was going to walk away and drive home again after just turning up, but I thought he may aswell take us out in it, just to see what its like. WOW what a difference, he didn't even rev it up to 5000rpm and it flew!! I decided to give it a second look around but I thought to make myself happy I'm going to need to spend atleast 1-1.5k on bodywork.

Anyway, everything worked on the car, the wheels where mint and it had 4 new tyres, the interior was dirty but generally in good condition. The MOT was for about 11months and it had a few months tax.

I decided to leave it and wait for a better one. On the drive home my mate asked how much I'd pay for a mint, black ABY and I said 6 grand or more for the right car. Baring in mind Mr Alltype assured me this was the first black ABY he'd seen in 2 years for sale, I thought f*ck it, its obviously mechanically mint, why don't I buy it and spend the money on the bodywork, so we went back to get it!!! I got him down to £4500 (he really doesn't like to budge on price) and drove it home!!! I love it!!!

Cheers for all your help guys. I may have rushed a little bit I'm glad I ended up with exactly what I wanted, albeit not quite in the aesthetic condition I'd hoped!!

Congrats on your purchase! black S2's are rare, what paint code is it? panther black?

If you want the bodywork sorting I recommend speaking to Quattronutter of Bahnstorm tuning ( my car is there at the mo getting bodywork) or GT500 both do top quality jobs for good prices, both opposite ends of the country Gt500 up north quattronutter down south

Interesting little story there. Glad you are happy, and he is right, there are very very few black S2's about.

I love the comment "Oh this is how they are supposed to feel - not that fast"! If it does feel like it is about to go into hyperspace at 4krpm then there is something seriously wrong with it.

Budget yourself £400 -£500 for a homefry (see s2central.net) and it will be even quicker!

                          Keep us updated with progress.

                          Cheers,

                          Steve.
