Think I'm going to remove this from the Coupe, any hints and tips, looks like 2 big heavy brackets and some cable under the bonnet and some bits inside the car. How do the big brackets bolt on? Just from under the bonnet? Any concealed fixings?
I'm going to take the carpet out anyway to drain the pond and I can see that the tubes the cables are in are all rusty..
Yeah, 2 x 17mm and 2x13 mm each bracket, 1 cable to each front seatbelt mounting, 1 to steering column, and several 2 thin and one thick to the top of the gearbox, all very straight forward
I used a junior hacksaw to cut the cable of on each of the seat belt base mountings. If you take them off first it's easy to get to the cable. I don't think it's possible to do it neatly as the seatbelt units don't come apart (I tried and almost broke one)
Other then that it's not to hard to get to the bracket on the driver side but the pass side one is a little tricky with the battery tray and gearbox in the way. I also found that the aircon panel on the bulkhead got in the way.

Don't get in a serious accident if you remove it. Your insurance company will find a way out of paying for personal injuries when they find the ProConTen is gone.

I highly doubt that the insurance company would notice that it is gone, it was an audi only safety feature that was quickly superseded. The insurance adjuster who notices that deserves a raise.
I could be wrong then .. bit funny to have both though but I suppose an airbag could still help in a crash which isn't quite violent enough for the ProConTen to pull the wheel away.

For all the effort to remove the ProConTen system and the very minimal weight loss, I would just leave it alone rather than risk a problem and a reasonably smart insurance adjuster. (They probably have databases that tell them what cars are equipped with what devices, etc. so they don't have to personally know about ProConTen).
