I'm impressed that something that big went in the boot of a coupe in the first place, unlucky about the window though, can you still buy them?

I once bought an engine and lifted it into the boot of a Corsa with the help of the guy I bought it off and my friend. When I got home and it was just 2 of us we stood looking at it for 20 minutes before deciding to try and lift it out, it was so difficult to get it over the lip of the boot without dropping it.

No idea what the availability of the window is now, but it doesn't look good.

I was sure my insurance didn't have glass cover so called Autoglass direct and was quoted at £726 plus VAT We joked about just buying another car.
Upon inspection of my insurance policy I am covered for all glass with just a $75 excess to pay. What a weight off my shoulders!
They say there's no glass in the UK and will have to wait until tomorrow to check stock from other sources. I don't know what happens, but I guess it's up to Autoglass and the insurers now.... they wouldn't try and write it off if they can't get the glass, surely?! (my car is not an S2, just a 2.0E with an insured value of £1500)

There was a massive amount of effing and blinding, but I had nobody else to blame other than myself! :corey:

The 'funny' thing is I had hired a van to collect it, but upon advice from friends and the internet, I decided it wouldn't be a problem to just use the car and save £50......

Jesus, the noise..... I thought I'd been shot.

                Life lesson learned.

We used a crane to get it in and I (wrongly) assumed myself and a mate could lift it out at my end......

I've now bought a crane as the coupe boot makes it impossible to get a decent purchase on the engine.

The whole process could have gone quite a bit better for me

I must say, an I5 (block + head, no manifolds or ancillaries fits nice and snug in the back of a VW Golf mk 4. As has been said... it's the getting it out that is the problem! I have a few nice marks on the rear bumper now.

The first time I moved an engine it was with a van and hoist. Was alot easier and without damage to me or my car

Not problem in an avant, had my stroker engine and a MK2 2.0 hybrid engine in the back and transported in it.

The worst was taking the stroker in bits out of the mk2 when i took it for the rebore , as said above the drop on the boot makes life difficult to say the least!

split block from head and its is a more stable load and you can lift it by yourself - even out of a coupe boot

                          Woops!

If you whip out the passenger seat you have a big space as well, just need to secure it again.

You do not want to be involved in a crash with an engine loose in the car!

Personally I would leave the insurance company alone and just put a whole new boot lid on it. If glass cover works the same way as normal cover I would have thought it would be written of with a £726 + vat bill as I doubt they will value your car at £1500. However it may just be you pay your excess and they fix the glass.

I'd just change the tailgate andget it painted.
Chances are the bonded window won't come out without a fight and you'll have to paint it anyway.
