And Denial is that big river in Africa right Dest?

I have spent an absolute fortune on my 3B, easily enough to buy 2 RS4s at today's prices. I also spent 4k on the S2 Avant over the course of 2 years driving and getting it all sorted, 2k to refresh the engine plus the turbo, Miltek, interior swap, servicing etc etc. I've enjoyed these cars though and I'm going to enjoy the RS4 too, when I can get it to handle properly

This was part of my thinking behind this thread, its something I am always worried about, it is the same over hear, agreed value insurance is very hard ot get now, for modified cars anyway. If someone hits my car I will get a few hundred ££. Hopfully I can buy the car back and break it, unless it is totally smashed. then I am ****ed

What am I denying?
I said on page one I still love S2's, the only thing that winds me up is people trying to say certain things that are simply not true.
I also stated pages ago that both cars are as good as each other, there is no best. Its all personal choice.Comment

Well inspite of the bickering, at least I know I am not the only one who has thought this... Prj has done what i was considering
But he has also answered my question, that being for a weekend toy with a big turbo, a coupe is the way to go

Yes IF you have your car perfectly done on papers....if you have the money ,you can repair your car and use all the invoices to win the judgementThere's one problem with that thinking.
At least here, where there is no "agreed value" policies.
If some moron crashes into you and writes off your RS4, you get the money back.
If some moron writes off your RS2, you get the money back.
If some moron writes off your tuned S2, you get 3k and get told to be happy about it.
That's why I decided to sell my S6, even though EVERYTHING was done on it.
I put it back to stock and sold it.
But yes....you have to spend money first....RED Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI TME nº 16 of 250

Great, someone agrees with me for a change
To expand on this.
I think the RS4 is really meant to be a daily driver. That's the whole point of the estate shape. Have an uber daily driver. Have that performance there all the time. Be able to take the kids, go shopping etc.
And for the weekend, you just go into egoist mode - hop into your project car, porsche, GT-R, or whatever you fancy and just enjoy it if you are so inclined. Take it to the track, etc. That's what sports cars are for, and I don't classify the RS4 as a sports car.Comment

Oh come on not another B4 vs B5 thread!!
They're different beasts... I must admit, my experience is limited to Mihnea's S4 when it was 511hp but I was very, very impressed. But it was too smooth for my liking - I wanted the noise and old-skool feeling of driving the I5, and I love the RS2 looks and stealth factor. If someone's passion is with the B5 then they're going to feel differently, each to their own....
When I bought my RS2, it was a really hard decision, but I couldn't leave the I5 fold - I also wanted a car I could work on - hence I went for the RS2. I also realised it would be a car I'd keep forever, where as the RS4 probably not.
Honestly? If I can ever justify it I'll have an RS4 on the drive as well; I looked at the ad for your Dest many times! The RS2 has become my daily most of the time I've had it and I must admit I think an RS4 would have been more suited, but for the above reasons I'm happy to keep the RS2
Running costs - any car can be expensive; RS brakes are quite a premium whether it's the RS2 or RS4! But put it this way... if you're spending 3-4k a year in maintenance it's costing you no more than getting a lease on a 2.0TDi passat or the likes.
One thing I will say - I don't get kiddie feet in the back of my head in the RS2, the A4 platform was tighter in the back when I looked into it

You're getting sensitive now Dest, notice the lol and the wink? I just don't see how you scan say that the RS4 costs no more to run and maintain than an S2. I mean you can get discs for 25 quid each for the S2.
The V6 has nearly twice as many bits to go wrong and a lot of them are much harder to get to than on the i5. That V6 engine is astonishing though eh? Totally addictive.

Hi Ross
we're on page 6 of this one buddy, where were you??
And yeah, the RS4 is not really a big bloke's car and its a bit tight in the back, no room behind my seat if I have it where I want it, my Mrs got stuck there (let the big lad go in the front with me)

I would say RS4 has more room for the driver, at least that is how it feels to me.
I feel cramped in the RS2, I don't feel cramped in the RS4.
There is no legroom in the rear though, if you have someone taller than Ross driving.
Sorry Ross
