    That is a good point.

Had this with one of the 19inch rs6 tyres on the way up north, ended up putting 1x stock 3b alloy on and driving it back the 100 or so miles, never had no issue's.

I've had 1x side wall torn on the s2 and 1x punture on the same alloys when they was on my passat, unfortunately with the passat i'd got the spare but no jack so still had to drive and wait for someone to come down with a jack as one of my family members had borrowed it and not told me.

Think I might leave the spare in the car, just could have done with the space for something.

Next question, who actually has faith in the stock widowmaker jack that comes in most cars. I know jas11n nearly lost a couple of fingers due to one and one of my other mates nearly had the same happen.

They are ok for emergency use to change a wheel, but as with all jacks i wouldnt dream of putting any body parts under the car without axle stands. I always put the wheels under the car too when working on it just incase it moves and topples the axle stands over. Would rather destroy an alloy than a leg or arm.

Yup, agree with you there. I've had brand spanking new one's collapse when used for the first time and find the majority just twist when you use them.

I carry a orginal 16" spare, but only to keep my luggage floor level

Remember to check that you have a jack also, or your spare will be pointless

Tyre pressures for the spare is worth checking also...

I noticed picking through scrap yards that a majority of them are made of plastic parts these days

Yeah the one that I had to change the rs6 rim on my passat was brand spanking new, never been used and out of my mates brand new car. The screw section went thru a plastic connecting part and it was this that snapped and the jack collapsed, luckily he had another jack on him as he had more than one with him.

I carry a standard 16" avus but would love to get a matching BBS. I dont trust the standard jacks at all. Had one slip on an old mk2 golf I had, not a fun moment!

Not used one my self but i suppose in theory why not.

Engine is an Air pump i.e compressor after all.

Bet you could inflate it quick smart if you where on boost too

The only thing that seems to fit in the coupe spare wheel well is a stock size tyre so I have an avus 16 with a 215 on it, I couldn't get a 225 in there. A space saver would be good but I wonder if it would fit over the porsche brakes? The RS4 has a puncture repair kit lol

they are commonly carried by 4x4s in the ozzy outback, although for reliability probably not ones made by draper

I was glad of my Avus 16" when I had a sidewall giveway on the A38 at 5am on a wet Wednesday in February.

I got a bit damp but was on my way inside 15 minutes of stopping.

The strange thing was the sidewall had completely gone but I stopped because I thought the back box had fallen off, the only sensation was a steady BOOM BOOM BOOM sound, the car was still steady as a rock at errrm....speed.
