    944, bad purchase made good.

    Putting this here for error404

We are all aware of the dangers of late night ebay browsing, this car is a great example of why you shouldn't do it.
I should have walked away, but i had traveled far and already insured it.

Nothing like the ad, car was a heap of **** and the seller a liar & cnt.
BTW, The brakes failed on the way home and when i was sorting it the jack went through the sill, if the seller was closer there would have been a nasty fire.

Another issue was buying the car in the heat of summer and the windows & sunroof not working - yes the heater was jammed on full heat. The bent MOT seemed a small issue at this point.

    Looks ok?

I think that poor alighnment is due to an s2 nose with s1 light lids and bumper.

So i made the best of what i had, made it safe and reliable, changed the howling gearbox, repaird the leaking rusty fuel tank, made the calipers hold fluid and sorted lights and things.

I had picked this car out because of the fondmetal 16" wheels - would you believe they were buckled

I bought some round wheels for it, set of OZ futura in 8.5 & 10x17.
Crusty but never molesterd and unkerbed.

The rims were wet flatted using 240,400,800 then 1200 and finished with some brasso.
I didnt want to strip the wheels down for now, just a tidy.

    Finised rims -

    Rear are 255 40 17 (a little stretched) fronts I may change, 205 40 17 (a massive stretch).

The trial fit had an offset fail as they were fitted to a late offset 928 (52mm) and this is 24mm.
Realy not into spacers but needs must.

had to "trim" the hub flange to get the fronts on too

I fitted a pair of springs i had from a 944 long ago and adjusted the rear torsion bars,
gave it a machine polish and admired the changes.

It was a bit of a banger but reliable, nice mpg, and handled like a kart.
It was still a dog however, the seat bases both ripped, cracked dash, random rust/dents ect..
    But it did look cool.

    story about a 944........

bough on Ebay, sat night at 1am, lots of JD n coke, and coke

car was advertized with 20" posrche twists
    fresh paint *alarm!*
runner, plenty TnT, drive away 2.5? motor all good
pics looked wicked, huge wheels, coilovers mentioned, perfect trim

turned up with a recovery truck the same/next day

car was indeed black with fresh paint, looked amazing, but small wheels......... they were infact 17`s and not 20`s
opened drivers door, was red inside, and under bonnet etc
trim looked like a pack of rats had a group gangbang in there the night before

not happy now, guy was nowhere to be seen so got him on the phone...... his wife placed advert.......!!!! LOL blame his wife!!!

we asked him to show up for a chat, he refused, we begged him with cash waiting as "he" had to sign the V5 legaly, he refused

good job as he would have got punched so hard, many many times lol

needless to say we wanted fuel costs for the 250 mile round trip, his lovely genuine wife got her purse out and paid us saying how sorry she was
felt sorry taking the money but hey, im not one for being mugged off

small story, **** 944, experience learnt and moved on

I wanted to tidy it a bit more so i went to buy a nice drivers door to resolve the break in damage it had.
I got to the guys house, "its on the car under the cover if you want a black one" he said.

I lifted the cover, the car under it was a stripped black 944 lux in stunning condition. It seemed a waste and it was about 700 times better than what i was trying to save.
Went out for a door, came back with a rolling shell.
It was totaly rust and dent free, had a 5 digit plate, V5, history, and best of all it was an oval dash model. It has been broken due to it having leather recaro interior and a 3.0 S2 engine - worth more than a tidy 944.

The big thing here is that my car was square dash (82-85), the new one - oval dash(85-92). This means the later car had lots of nice things like alloy arms, plastic fuel tank, decent fuse box and many upgrades from the early car.

I found out just how many upgrades when i tried to swap the shell over, how can they look the same outside when every part is different?
nothing fitted, not the heater, not the loom, not even the brake lines.
Where ford and vauxhall give you the same tired parts year after year with a facelift, the Germans kepp cars looking the same for ever and constanly update parts, 85-86 was the biggest change, oh -exactly the cars i have.

I had decided this had become more than a cheap hack and to spend some £ on it, so i went back to the breaker who i got to know very well in the end and purchased everything needed, which was everything.

You will notice - no brembos in the pics, the turbo hubs didnt fit the spacers and i didnt want to chop them.
I was sick of cleaning the OZs and didnt like to run the spacers anyway.

I had been mastubating over this car and wanted Azev As.

I found the car had an excellent chassis and no power.

The little things done first, chip and filter - almost pointless.

I used it as a 1st car all year and it seemed to get photographed everywhere, even a couple of mags had snapped it in show car parks

The rear seat was stupid, i couldnt even get a midget hooker in there and had to pay for a hotel, so i decided to remove the rear seat and fit 6x9 spekers in there place.

I Cut the armrest from the rear seat, cleaned aera, used the original speaker wires from rear speakers int the qtrs (they reached uncut)

Errr... just noticed its not fitted in this pic

Nex i hit a Fox, it didnt move and the brembo pads were expensive so i didnt want to use the brakes.

                              I had this

ok for a can job yo
