  • help needed....

I have purchased a dump valve from Dresden in Germany and located the old valve....the recirculating valve under the front right headlamp.

the problem is this.....there are supposed to be three hoses attached and to my shock I could only feel the two bigger ones....the boost pipe has either been removed or has worked itself free, which brings me on to the subject....where the f*ck is the actuator as I was hoping to follow the boost pipe from the valve to find it?!!

    I have a coupe Quattro 1990

any help will be greatly appreciated

    Thanx

On the 3B the vacuum pipe which actuates the Diverter valve is threaded through a couple of short tubes welded to the metal boost pipe which goes from the front of the cam cover back and round the corner to the throttle body. It then carries on and is connected to a spigot on the back of the Inlet Manifold.

So there is no actuator as such, valve is opened by the vacuum in the manifold when you shut the throttle.

When the throttle is closed the boost pressure in front of the throttle has nowhere to go and would stall the turbo so the DV opens and recirculates this pressure back to the face of the turbo thereby keeping it spinning so it's ready to boost again in the next gear.

Yes, as it shows in the diagram I posted above

What sort of DV have you bought from germany then? Dump or Diverter?

I don't believe the reference was to the cheese part

But then again, I've ran mine without any valve for some time. Just depends what part of your engine you don't like. I guess running a BOV is better than nothing at all, and running a diverter valve with an open filter to make a sound has a tendency to make intake air too hot.

As many times before, ze german engineers have come up with a solution that takes care of everything.

Now running Forge diverter and RS2 airbox, just a subtle little 'pst', but I know everything is allright
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

Actually that one was perfect. Cheesy *AND* Ricey all in one.

And I am not talking about the Rice-a-roni.

That DV is not what you want. The car will run like crap every time this thing dumps all your metered air... I've tried a few and fully atmospheric was a waste of time.

If you absolutely have to have lots of noise then either run a freer airbox / filter or get something like the Turbosmart, Forge or GFB hybrid recirculating type.

I run a Forge 007 recirculating DV and because the airbox resembles Swiss cheese, it sounds plenty loud enough.

Same money you've just spent and actually worth the time to fit:-

Actually that's a good point, if your DV actuator hose has gone missing (they tend to fray and rot away with age) then you'll certainly have a boost leak and your car will not be running right anyway. You really want to replace all those small vac hoses with new. Take Andy up on his offer!
