I already wrote everything that is needed to know in the first reply, and anyone who knows at least basics about electronic components can understand it.
If you don't know anything about electronics, then maybe you shouldn't **** around with this.

Go to school for it or something, this is not place to educate you about something as simple as 1+1 for anyone with knowledge of components. You are like asking me to explain why water is wet.

thnx for the link but didn't get any wiser ... :0

I'm a novice (at best) regarding electronics ... but mby someone may explain in simple words why 87c257 and 27c256 is NOT compatible ?
When comparing data-sheets for them they're not only pin-compatible but as far as I can find all other parameters also match.
Reason for asking is the "need" of copy a 93' urS4 ABT 280 hp chips to be used in a 93 S2 ABY (Avant)

87 has an integrated address latch
            27 does not

You can get a latch board from BoostButton.com

            Part code LatchBrd-MP

That’s about the limit of my knowledge

                latch board :
                - BoostButton.com does not exist anymore.

                - searched for Cobra RTP and found : https://cobrartp.com/en/store/boost_brd/
                - price is $25 + postage + VAT + import charge, hmm 87c is more expensive than 27c but not that much ...
