    Discussion on S2 Coupe values.

As is quite often the case with some for sale threads they can generate comments like (not worth that) from more than one person/persons where many like to join in with friendly discussions that the mods don't like which is fair enough and we are always told to take the discussion to the forum this way. So When a S2 gets put up for sale and descriptions are scant and photos are poor or crazy prices, it generates interest as the 10k Aby Coupe has ref for sale thread. here.http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75084

Let the discussion continue chaps as its aloud here.

    .......How loud!?

If it sells for 10k (if), what might a similar condition 20vCQ make?

My comment in the for sale thread says it all I think the seller for this particular car doesn't want to share any information on the car hes selling which is bizarre if you want top money it has to be pristine all the usual aspects covered and immaculate. Vonbecks on here I have seen in the flesh would be a near 10k example and need I say mine as everything has been done to the car?!! There are quite a few immaculate S2's around but owners never want to part as they are special car. S2's will command 10k+ money eventually but for someone to shell out a lot of money on a car that's now a minimum 20 years old well it has to be near perfect with some much history mileage is irrelevant due to the age.

It won't sell for 10k. But if it did a similar condition 20V CQ has got to be a 9k don't you think?

I thought something looked wrong with my spelling

That particular example may well be 'ok' but it seriously winds me up when a car is put up for sale and the photos are out of focus and limited to three/four shots with literally no information on the history of the car. I put more detaied photos and information in an eBay ad recently for two old storage heaters that I only wanted £25 for! If you're going to ask strong money for your car you have to, or a professional has to, spend a long time giving it a proper deep clean and polish everywhere (an engine bay covered in thick dust doesn't qualify I'm afraid) and you have to put some serious effort in to describing everything about the car that people want to know, even the niggles and bad bits.

I suppose it would be worth understanding whether S2's hold value better in standard, unmolested form or with some sensible upgrades like the brakes for instance. If I was selling my motor I would have no idea what the current market value was, however I know what I could get for it in bits though and that would be 7k+

My cq is worth £7-8k in bits. **** all as a working car. And it works better than most.
As some folk now I'm looking for an nice condition S2 coupe, actually I'd prefer not to get a standard car. I'm prepared to spend good money on the right car, but I've seen a lot and truely good ones come up very rarely.
Keeping them standard is hard work, parts are expensive and dare I say it they are just not much fun in stock form. Ultimately though a stock car is worth more money, but only as that's what collectors value. Real enthusiasts aren't like collectors, they like to drive their cars. So as always a cars worth what a buyer wants to pay, and all buyers are different

CQ20v ? I bought mine for just under a grand and a half a few years ago , very good bodywork but mostly original engine/running gear condition , spent a good few grand more on improving performance/handling etc incl.head work and suspension...but wouldnt expect more than 3 grand for it if prices i've seen are anything to go by recently...nows the time to snap up CQs, theres very few left in UK ( RHD ) and if you check the 'how many left' website they are rarer on the road than S2s.....NA rules and I'm never selling mine even if petrol runs out !

i always think if you cannot be bothered to do a good write up and good quality photos of all aspects of the car then how much care has been taken of the car?? As for keeping them standard etc if its tasteful it "should" add value. After all as we have all learnt buying one of these cars the modding bug will get you eventually, so its cheaper in the long run.

Personally it would be wise to buy with the brakes already done so that would add value and i don't think RS2 ing does any harm either as under the hood still looks stock. But slamming with the Euro look is a big no no.

Values and all that........Quite apt really he's just dropped his price from £8,995 to £7,850.Presume he must have fell asleep yawning waiting for 6 months with the lack of activity. If it were 5.k it might have a chance but there again it's not an ABY.
