Had a mild panic earlier. Got dropped at Stanstead where I'd parked the avant in the long term carpark. Got to car and pressed the alarm remote button, nothing happens..
Hmm the switch has been a bit dodgy so I fiddle with it a bit, nothing, open it up to check the battery is seated, nothing..
Stick battery between tongue and wet top lip, faintest tingle, this is a tiny 12v so should give me a belt and a nasty taste! Oh crap, it's getting dark soon too, don't fancy trying to remove the alarm from the car here in the carpark at the airport! The RAC might be able to sort it out but they'll be ages and going home on a truck I won't get there till midnight.. Anyway I open the car with the key and try the fob as near to the dash as I can as the control unit is behind there somewhere, the alarm of course goes off but nobody takes any notice. The alarm stops but goes off if I move or open a door. I try the batteries from my torch, using my mini leatherman to connect direct to the fob circuit board but it's only 4.5v and/ or I dont get a good contact, or the remote is actually broken and wont work anyway???..

Then I remember my toolbox left in the boot from the weekend before, there's some spare wire in there I'm sure. So there is and I manage to strip and twist a couple of bits of wire onto the remote PCB and connect direct to the car battery in the boot (the alarm still screaming away and nobody coming to see what's going on) The remote suddenly works and the alarm lets out loads of beeps, I manage to lock the car and then unlock it and to my relief the car starts on the key. 10 mins later I'm on the M11 laughing to myself, sometimes its a buzz to get yourself out of a bad situation.
I'll let Dave tell us the moral to this situation..
