I've own B5s for 14+ years and the B4/P1 for 2.5 years. I really really like the B5s too (the proper quattro manual ones with turbos!), but the B4 just oozes character, quality and feels completely bulletproof. I love the power delivery of the I5. The feel and sound of the turbo spooling is intoxicating. It feels so strong on boost. And of course quattro. Interior still feels lovely after 20+ years, better than most modern cars after 3. Not sure about the vinyl on the door cards though - they could have done better there!

OMG polish overload!! You need hazard warnings on that thing, catch a reflection of the sun and you'd go blind!
The interior, especially the gearstick gaitor, suggests it has only delivery miles! If this was parked next to my RS2 it would devalue 50%.RS2 - Project Mental Wheels

I have really let my car go of late. Just not enough time. But, it's still on my driveway (albeit on axle stands and rotting a bit)...
I have an F31 335d with 540ft/lb & 390hp that'll do a 4s 0-60 and 45mpg on the same journey (it makes an awesome daily). My wife has a Golf R that will not be far behind off the line, and destroy it on the back roads with with playstation-esque ease.
But... I miss the heavy clutch and 6-speed, managing the lag and keeping her 'on the boil' to keep up the progress. I miss not having a traction control light, and driving to the ability of the car and myself, rather than what DCS will allow. I miss the weighty steering and actually feeling the road. And damn do I miss the sound!
My modern cars feel numb and disengaging in comparison, hence I've not been tempted to offload the old Audi that is now being usurped in performance my more modern 'normal' cars!AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

Yet is that a glint of metal I see, showing through the clutch pedal rubber??

My money's on 'no', it's just another reflection of light on the rubber of the pedal.RS2 - Project Mental Wheels

We all have different and high opinions of each others pride and joy but what I also like about this is when you meet up with other fellow enthusiasts and share and show off our fine examples and like a few have said polish them to an inch of their life lol!! Sooo much better than new stuff
I also think the build quality is better than its competitors of the same generation your talking Merc BMW etc (or I could be just biased)

for me , rallying my Quattro just puts a smile on so many faces . with 20 class awards and several 1st in class champiomship wins im just hooked
, each year I make the car a bit more competitive ,it would have been easy for me to rally a Subaru impreza and poss a lot cheeper but the audi gets more attention , not to mention we [audi ] were rallying way before the jap stuff .

Ha ha, well thanks for the compliment. The car's been undergoing a mini-restoration since I bought it. Gater knob brand new 2.5 years ago, full respray last year, wheels painted around 2 years ago. The interior was in good knick when I got it but the door cards do need fixing up and the carpet isn't the best either. Anyway, yes the car had a wash and polish before I took that photo, but you should see it now
. Black is such a difficult colour to keep looking good, but when it's clean and shiny it look great. The car has done just under 200,000km so it certainly isn't new!

I echo the above as well. The interior is such a nice place to be, quality materials and the feel of the steering. No rattles for a 20 year old car says a lot. New cars just lack feel, like someone said a playstation with wheels - this sums new cars up for me.
When you accelerate a little, it's then as if the engine/turbo is begging you to bury your right foot to go faster and when full boost comes it's fantastic
the sound is just perfect.
Surprising modern stuff is great too, people who have just spent a fortune in the dealers are outdone buy a old audi estate car

yep, I also have an A4 (B5) and that just feels flimsy and cheap compared to the "swiss bank vault" feeling the S2 has.
