I wasn't aware that such a vehicle was built by the factory. An old UrS4 shape with the 4.2liter V8 and quattro drivetrain. If its true then it explains an awful lot about the throttle controlled drift which must be easier to do than on zee turbo engines.

Is this a joke - are you mental - am I a bit thick ?

hah - not too fussed actually - just real curious about the claimed existence of such a vehicle.

Maybe its a wind up - though given the shared parentage of the Audi V8 to the 100/200 of old then it wouldn't be impossible to lob a V8 engine into a UrS4 chassis. Couple that to a Torsen rear diff (from the V8) and you have a nice recipe for big fun in such a wagon. Surely the factory never built such a thing - if so it would be the official daddy to the neuRS4 we're all drooling about from this weeks TopGear.

OMG - check out this site dedicated to the S6plus. I love it. Look carefully at the spec and see the incredibly low prices these things fetch in Europe. True the costs of running one would be horrible (unless you got an LPG conversion which is sacrilege).

This thing has electronically controlled differentials !

And just to complete the conversation with myself - I see that there WAS indeed a V8 engined S4 in the old C4 shape. Built only in 1994 with the ABH engine apparently.

I'd forgot about the S6plus but a V8 engined S4 Avant is a new discovery for me. Enlightened I feel...

                    yes they exists.
I looked at one before i got my s2 avant.
the v8 is ok, but turbo is much much more fun!

No yes and yes, so it would seem

If it is a V8 then I would say it is the earlier S4 as it defo has the rear spoiler missing from the tailgate that all S6+ (and last of the line UK spec S6's), how do I know this? because mine has not gone fitted (being an early '96) and Dave (quattroBoy) has, his being a late '96, and to fit one to an earlier bootlid entails swapping the whole tailgate as they are different. So if anyone has a late tailgate with said spoiler (especially in Blue) please let me know

And the small print in most of Audi'd rarest machinery is of course - available in LHD only - as far as I can tell... Does anyone know of any RHD S6+ every being built ?

The family album doesn't give much away in terms of transmission except that all V8 variants had the 01E 6-speed box with a torsen centre. There were some auto options of course but I could care less about them. The manual systems are all 4.111 final ratio and include an oil cooler for the gearbox... The latter is a recommended addition to any highly modified S2 of course.

You just wouldn't let it lie !

I have little respect for japanese RWD tin boxes being deliberatly setup for radical drift style racing. It just leaves me cold... But seeing and hearing a quattro going nicely sideways in controlled four wheel drifts is so much more impressive. Just my opinion !

At i site it said this: quattro: permanent all-wheel drive; EDS: electronic controlled differentials with variable locking and automatic power managment

Can someone confirm this! I thought it had the same as S2 Avant and UrS4!

From what I read - the S6+ has the EDS gadgetry that you describe. I'd love to know more about the 'variable locking' mechanism and what driver controls (if any) are available to tweak the transmission behaviour.

This car was actually built under license by 'Quattro gmbh' - not Audi !
