I had a go against a skyline recently and put in a good show. was on the way up north to my parents, so car was full of fuel and stuff.

got to traffic lights with a stationary skyline, think it was a 'S' reg GT 2.5 R. i timed it spot on for the green and went through in 2nd. decided to floor it.

he immediatley apeared next to me, guess he floored it off the line too, heading onto A1 slip road next to me.

got the boost cut in then continued to rev the car through to 3rd with him just to the side of me with a very confused passenger looking over trying to work out why i was able to keep up

once entering motorway i eased off, cos its not in the winning, but how much of a show you put on

I had a MY95 ABY and had it pushing 330 BHP and 475NM with some basic mods and I sat with a 360BHP Carrera from 40 - 170mph ish? (well it was off my clock and when we stoped and chatted he said 170?) Great cars and definatly wolf in sheeps clothing. (especially if your switched on enough to have bought a slipepr wagon!!)

totally agree. Even 300ftlbs on a remap is a lot. Have a look at any high performance cars' figures and you will match most or better some of them...

I've had a go at a few things just to see what the car would do.

Saxo vts at 130+ - sat behind him not even touching the accelerator till he blew up and covered me in oil (b*stard)

Aston martin - (private ring road round london race track) the speedo said 150mph and the sat nav said 144mph (not bad loss for speedo 6mph) and I had loads left but did not know the area so didn't bother after that

Triumph 1000cc bike - sat behind him at 140 on speedo got bored and overtook him and went so I could follow an s3 for around 50 ish miles down towards bristol way.

Tbh i've drove quite a few cars and at times when the s2 is working at its best it will surprise you about how quick it feels and makes you smile. You will be surprised at it if you've had slower cars. The driver as alot of people have said does make the difference, i.e. i'd rather just go in a straight line as I had an accident on a country lane and not prepared for the heartache etc from a damaged car/loss of money etc.

Not good, I remember driving a 2litre s capri and spending more time asking the passenger for directions out the passenger window than looking out the front window.

Another reason why i'm not driving like that anymore

Picked up about 3 weeks ago, so i've got to slow down. First time I actually got a chance to drive the car just for fun and this happens. I've slowed down since then.

Yeah i've tried to get it to wheelspin and I have not been able to, don't bother trying now, was just interested if that it would do that.

Btw if any of you want a laugh with your s2, follow a renault 5gt turbo. Race it and sit behind it, trust me won't be long before the engine blows - lol

"Excessive acceleration" I've heard that one before, trying to give a copper the slip without breaking the speed limit.

It was an undercover cop car, he had a right go at me over it saying i'm going to loose my car etc. say one thing I would not give them a chance, I would find a way to keep it even if it meant me getting in more trouble.

Bmw's do make me laugh just really don't like them. Think I only like 2 sorts - e30 325i as my mate had one it was fun to drift but rusted like ****. Early m3, apart from that really don't like them

You were lucky you picked a slow one.....!
nice to see, but had it been the GTR you wouldn't have faired so well...
Yes, the old cossie thing of adding VAT.... like it....
I agree torque is all important, but its easier to compare BHP figures, as most people don't know how many of those 'torques' they have...
I had a heavily modded front wheel drive SAAB 9000, which had a massive amount of torque, around 480 Lb/ft (over 400BHP)... in gear acceleration was monstrous, although spinning the wheels 3rd through 4th is ridiculous, and it was quicker walking when it was wet... but huge amounts of fun....oh, and SAAB manual gearboxes were rubbish, I had to have 4 of them in under a year....
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

Torque is king thru the gears people... Forget handling and weight for now.

Torque is a measure of the engines ability to accelerate... Power is a measure of its top speed...

Take the awesome R8 for example - a wonderful thing with 400bhp but only 430Nm of torque. Sure its quick, but with similar weight of an S2 I'd say a homefried/remapped one on the stock turbo with give an R8 a good chase thru the gears. They are 410-430Nm... And anything with an RS2 turbo properly fettled could be running a rodmunching 600Nm and more which would blow the R8 away. All irrelevant when talking about top speed when the R8's bigger power and better aero package will easily give the advantage... And if corners are involved then the older technology of S2/RS2 running gear will be no match for the latest greatest Vorsprung Durch Technik.
