Hope you can sell it on here Mike as a project and tell the insurance to get stuffed! Would be a real shame to see this a Cat A car. Feel privileged to have driven this car briefly and it is simply awesome.
Best of luck on the job front too man.1995 Audi S2 AvantComment

I could sell her to anyone who comes up with the best offer to beat my insurance figure, however they are still "dealing" with this....I would however say you need to come to Scotland (I'm sure you wouldn't like that) to have a look for yourself1998 A6 Q (Suzie)

I knew you'd love it when you had a wee go Mike, and it's a strange feeling driving your first leftie in UK, I remember my first leftie way way back a bit daunting to say the least, I'm sure she will sell before the insurance get hold of her, a heap of interest so far since yesterday
Job front....I'm certain something will come up...

Buy it, take it to Germany, register it, bring it back.
Simple.
As long as you still have the V5, the ABI have NO say away from the UK.
And for those neh sayers it's been done.
CheersNever argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!Comment

Going back to the OP this does not seem correct to me at all. Usually cars that are seriously flooded are marked Category B and don't go back on the road, but can be broken for some parts. Category A is normally for something that has been destroyed and represents weigh in scrap value only. However there is another reason some insurers mark a car as Category A and that is because it is the type of car vulnerable to cloning type fraud. I remember coming across a new Escort Cosworth that had its wheels and minor parts stolen before being recovered. The insurer had a policy of writing everything that was high risk like that as cat A and putting it in the crusher on the logic that anything else would result in a similar car being stolen. I had thought we were more enlightened now but an Audi S2 would be the kind of vehicle that an assessor might want to cat A. I'd also say that you are entitled to get your own independent valuation if you don't think the assessor is correct, another tactic is to ask the insurer to replace the vehicle for something identical in the same immaculate condition, given rarity not easy but they may wake up to the fact that these are valuable motors.Comment
