It really is poor how this is being handled, I was shocked when they called me back to say their "engineer" has deemed her a CAT A, after all the discussions we had over the weeks and negotiating a deal to pay me something to fix her up, they also were not going to CAT her at all as it was going to be cash in lieu as mentioned by one of the guys here, good advice. Anyway it is what it is I guess and now I have to look to the future to maybe buy into another one. However this is my 2nd total loss in a few months and will reflect on my next policies so it will be at least 5 years before I go for another one now so I do not have to declare any claims such as this....damn it

By the time they got to it I would have everything of value off it and just stand there looking stupid, long as there's a shell

I'd have as much out as possible (including the engine ). Insurance will probably send people who are only told the address and registration number. I doubt they will have seen the photos you sent to your insurers. They won't necessarily know what it is they're picking up. Then it'll be stuck in a compound somewhere, whether it's missing parts or not i doubt they'll be bothered about if the shell is getting crushed.

Hope you have one last go at them to Cat C it instead Mike.

Cat A does seem helluva harsh......and will get insurance less money back?
Cat B would get them something back?
Cat C and owner gets payout and keeps car?......cost?.....not as much as Cat A/B surely.

Hi mike why don't you just forget about the insurance keep the car when you gather up the funds ( a couple of grand at most ) do it in your own time there will be no cat against the car and it won't be crushed which would be a sin. It won't cost anything to sit on it for a while

The annoying bit is that I'm sure we all know that should it eventually go to the crusher, just before it actually gets flattened, the drive train, brakes, wheels & tyres, etc. are gonna be removed and probably end up in a rallycross car or similar....

                          So, so sad

The scrapyard won't be that stupid to crush everything, pretty sure there will be a few parts on eBay including an engine with its number ground off.
I'd have the mirrors, headlight trims, steering wheel, injectors, turbo swapped for stock items already

This is what I would do, it's criminal what they want to do, they are putting you in an impossible situation and obviously have no respect for classic cars or their owners. There have been too many cars lost already due to crap policies like this, I could go on but if it was mine I would be calling the shots, my car I decide
Sorry for your grief, hope you get something that suits you better sorted.
