    "00575 - intake manifold pressure, 17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent"

Only code I get and it only happens after going out for more than a few miles.

Dude, go out and log block 011 with VAG-Com at WOT between 1000 and 4500 RPM. Then we'll be able to see what's wrong with the boost control. Control difference can mean higher or lower than requested boost... Also log block 003 for the MAF, to see how bad it is.

Then use TDI Timing for your engine type and check out of your actual vs. spec'd injection timing looks like this:

Injection timing always has to be in between the upper and lower lines with a warm engine. If it isn't, then it means you have to re-set your pump dynamically.

BTW, a friend of mine has had his timing belt replaced on a 110HP TDI Golf, and when he came back the injection timing was all over the place. When I called the garage up to ask them how they had timed the pump, the guy had never heard of a 1551/1552 or any other VAG tools, nor had he heard of a dynamic pump adjustment that has to be done with a VAG Tool.

TDI timing works in block 0, basic settings and then click on TDI timing. select your engine/car type and then you should see the graph appear....

      Cheers,

Found the TDi timing thing, thanks Mihnea. It said it was within spec but slightly advanced as it was close to the green line at the top. I did the measurement after coolant was above 81C and the fuel temp was 109. I assume my engine code is 1Z.

So, should I adjust it and if so how? Where is the adjustment on the pump?

I did some logging but I couldn't get it to log from 1000rpm, I had to start a bit higher as it has zero torque. I will email you the file Mihnea. Grateful if you could have a quick look for me.

@Doug, can you post a pic of your boost control vac lines? The way it is set up in mine looks odd. Control valve to intake plumbing to wastegate actuator.

Lee, cool, IMHO if the timing isn't way off it's ok, don't do anything there for now. As for the logs, no probs if they don't start at 1k RPM.

Make sure you log each block separately, otherwise the sampling rate is too slow and I won't be able to figure out anything from a log with 2 or 3 blocks logged at the same time...

          cheers,

Oh OK. I logged 001, 003 and 011 at the same time. It took about 20 seconds to go from 1000 to 5000 rpm in 2nd gear. LMFAO this car is a right PoS at the mement. I need to go and find about 20 miles of open road to do these logs again!

Is it loud lee? Can you here the turbo? If you can - it is probably a boost leak.

Did you check the rubber hose I pointed at previously in the thread?

              I'll take some pics asap.

I had to replace the hose that goes to the top of the intake manifold (next to the EGR valve) as it had a good 3" split. There was a hell of a lot of oil in there and that must have led to the demise of the hose. The engine bay was covered in a black film when I picked it up...I mean EVERYTHING was black even the brake fluid resevoir and it took me hours to clean it down with Gunk. I can hear the turbo just but it currently feels like the S2 when it was retarding boost and/or ignition: sort of holding back. I am not holding out much hope for the turbo being ok but I will find out when I change a few more bits.

Get your boost gauge on it - and see what it is doing.

Try your wgfv from the s2 - if it physically fits! Even if it is different it might show if it is working or not

I'm getting a new wgfv anyway. Not going to start dismantling the S2 just yet...give it a couple of weeks . Would like to see those pics of your boost control as mine is definately not logical.

Did the full service, blocked the EGR AND replaced a split hose. Car is still lame and low on power and it wouldn't even go to 5000rpm in second gear on the flat! Wow. It is smoking like hell now so it is definately a fuelling issue.

While I am waiting for a MAF and boost control valve, I have a quick question:
How do I adjust/check the diesel timing after changing the cambelt?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Seeing as many here run TDis and do their own maintenance, I thought it would be worth asking here before scouring the TDi discussion boards.
Lee, your problem is MAF! Definite, no buts or maybe's, It's your MAF. It won't show a fault but believe me it's faulty.
Neighbouring garage just spent £12K on new state of the art diag and it didn't show MAF fault, said was operating ok. Replaced and hey presto, full revs and plenty of go!
Wait for your MAF before doing anything!

MAF's very rarely show as fooked on diag tools, well, they dont log as fault codes!

Take the MAF out of the airbox and but some duct tape over about 1/3 to 1/2 its area. Then try it again up the road. If it goes better then the MAF is dead. Thats one of the best way to test dead TDI MAF's IMHO.

To be honest mate, it does sound very much like a MAF problem. Try my little trick. Use it loads on VW/AUDI/Vauxhall Tdi's
