OK I see plenty enough interest on these now to light up the first batch. I'll PM everyone with payment details. I want to place the order for coolant hoses by end of October so that is when everyone's expectations of delivery should start from. Approx 6 weeks after October 31st - just in time for chrimbo

I'll be ordering extra turbo hose kits as well for anyone that wants them in the same timeframe so PM me separately if you need turbo hoses.

      Cheers,

        Hi Paul

I have a slight leak in the RS2Avant pipe which comes from the bottom of the expansion bottle. I was going to use the one off the S2Coupe when I get the Red Samcos but I noticed the pipes are different.

The S2Coupe goes to the bottom of the expansion tank to the bottom of the radiator, whereas the RS2Avant pipe goes from the bottom of the expansion tank to the thermostate where it has a ridiculas Y juction which tends to wear.

I havent read all your posts on this so Im not sure if you have taken this into account for RS2 owners.

I just need the Samcos for the my S2coupe as thats my first love, not the RS2Avant.

I'm not aware of that difference on the RS2. I'll check the family album again. Can you take some pictures ? Maybe this is a regional thing if SA cars had a different cooling system than Euro cars... Hmmm

Check this PDF - I've only had a quick (cheeky) look and cannot see the hose you are referring to. Only differences I know of are related to the main bottom pipe with cars not equipped with the auxiliary radiator (like the KV, NM and some others depending on the territory).

Need some photos from you really...

              Here are the RS2 Pics
As you can see the Pipe from below the expansion bottle (Hose 39) goes to the side of the engine where the Thermostate is. I could not get the camera in there to take a shot of where it forms a Y juction with Hose number 30 in the diag.
So Hose 30 and 39 are one Hose in the RS2.
The bottom of the radiator is bunged, where hose 39 normaly joins the radiator.

EIther I'm not understanding this correctly from the photos - I know from experience it is a difficult area to photograph... But the plumbing on your RS2 seems wrong to me. Hose 39 should connect the expansion tank to the bottom of the main radiator... not to the thermostat via a 'Y' junction with Hose 30. Very weird.

If you study pages 1 and 3 on my PDF you will see the hose layout is identical on 3B, ABY and ADU (RS2) engines.

Can anybody else with an RS2 get a look at this please - it may be a South African anomolie.

                    @Mastermind - what model year is your RS2 - R, S or T ? I'll check the family album again...

Heh-oh here we go - just looked at the MY96 info for the RS2 and sure enough it calls up pipes 30/39 as a single part. The diagram is common with 3B & ABY - stupid thing. EDIT - same is true for MY94 and MY95. Its an RS2 oddball !

The weird pipe in question is 8A0 121 109 B on the RS2

Very well spotted by the 'mastermind' in SA !

Only question is WHY is it different - is the radiator different ?

Could you mount the S2 hoses on the RS2 ?

Pipe 39 is also different on LHD 3B cars (compared to ABYs and RHD 3B's). This might be a trivial thing that really doesn't matter. We won't know for sure until test fitting on an LHD 3B application - unless someone has both hoses to compare or try fitting the ABY one onto a LHD 3B ?

                        ABY and RHD 3B = 857 121 109 B (possibly common with a UR hose)
                        LHD 3B = 893 121 109 E

                        Cheers,

                          Paul,

I have done a bit of digging on ETKA and it would certainly seem as though the RS2 has pipe 30 and 39 joined together. The radiator is the same as ABY but they list a bung to be used as well.

I have ordered the 8A0 121 109 B pipe in for tomorrow to have a look at.

Your findings align with mine then - its th stupid picture being wrong which caused the confusion in the first place as it looks the same as S2.

Do we have anyone suitably qualified in the wonders of engine cooling system design that could postulate a theory why this is different on the RS2.

There must have been some sort of reason - otherwise why would Audi have to gone to the hassle of creating a new hose. That and its a tight wee corner down there. We all know about the weakness of hose 30 - it must be worse if it is a more complex hose.

Guessing the reason is something like quicker warm up, or easier bleeding. Dunno ...

I would prefer to mod the RS2 hose back to S2 dual hose setup as that Hose 30/39 is currently dripping on my RS2 and its a real creature to change.
I can also confirm the S2 and RS2 radiators are the same. All I wouold need to do is remove the bung.
