Here's a pic of one of the pressure plate straps - The pressure plate has three of these. This is a Sachs pressure plate, and as you can see it has a fairly long strap constructed from two strips of spring steel. The uprated pressure plates have shorter straps and they are constructed with up to four strips of spring steel. These spring steel straps can also be kinked prior to assembly, to aid clutch bite and help prevent premature failure of the straps.
The LuK (OEM) pressure plate is a better design as it uses shorter straps, however, the straps are weaker than those used on the Sachs unit.
Both can be modifed to take extra and shorter straps.
The weakest link for high output motors is the friction material. This is also the case if you're into red light racing with high rev starts. The quattro system produces such good traction that something has to spin, in most cases it's going to be the clutch and not the wheels

Id rather it be the clutch than go and damage the gearbox or driveshafts etc though.

Ah yeah but when you drive the car even at high speed, when the torque comes in it just slips. Thats even without 'slipping' it to pull away

I will need a strong clutch for my 20v URQ project that will use a aby, with a 3b flywheel and a 016 box. Does the 016 box require a different number of splines than the box you guys use? EG is clutch the same? Thanks, des.

              Hi

I got 3B(from 200tq) mounted to 016 box. The clutch and flywheel came from 3b.

Clutchnet are useless at answering e-mails. They have asked for a clutch to be sent to them before they will quote on price, etc. I have a spare (new) 3B clutch that will be sent to them in the New Year. Hopefully, it wont take too long for them to advise what's available. Lets hope the Dollar stays as it is for a little longer.
