Are you going to stick with the plain centre caps or can you source some Audi ones?

Thanks Steve, I am rather pleased at the outcome.
They had Audi logo caps on to start with, but with them being black it (I thought) made the wheels look a bit odd.
I'm having a set made which will have the S2 badge logo milled slightly into the surface.
Nothing to obvious, but an S2 owner would spot them

I did a very similar DIY job on my own wheels a few years ago.
Mine were 'fondmetal cross-spokes' similar to the ones below.
Whilst sitting on the doorstep sanding down the surfaces, I started counting how many flat surfaces were on each wheel. I got to approx 256 on each wheel before concluding that it was a bad idea to take on the job and ........ '**** I've got another 3 wheels to do!'
i think this is one field where its cheaper to get the proper people to do it
I didn't mind in the slightest doing them myself, only took a Sunday to do, start to finish.
Best thing is, I saved a wad of cash and I appreciate them more now having done them myself.
All told, they're a fairly easy wheel to do yourself, nothing like those Fondmetal ones shown above. I don't think I would have tackled those myself.
I considered refurb the BBS RA's on my 16v Golf for about a minute. Then decided completely against that whilst trying to clean them yesterday.... They need bead blasting then powder coating by specialists....

Thats an amazing finish....with any serious dings on the rims what did you do?
I have a set of the 5 spoke competition alloys for an A4/A6 (on my A6) which need to be refurbed, thought that they are an easy wheel to work on cos its not a complicated design but i'm not sure i'd be confident of getting a finish as good as that due to time and patience Can you persuade me that I can in those timescales

The two pics below are of the worst of the four wheels.
There was one pretty nasty gouge on it, as can been seen on the lower spoke. It had gone through the paint and was around 1.5/2 mm in depth into the alloy itself.
I used a sharp file and a sanding block with P120 paper to get rid of it. Don't try and do it with just your fingers on the paper or you'll risk grooving it. Remember a file is designed to work in one direction only, try filing on the reverse stroke and you just clog it up. A little bit at a time rather than going at it big guns, you can always take material away, but it's a lot harder to replace it.
The worst part I had to do was on the wheels outer rim. As you can see on the left side I had to take it back quite a bit, but wasn't too worried as once the base coat and top coats were on, it sort of masks the visible line.
I suppose if the dent is really deep, then a very fine paste body filler would build it up.
When spraying, the key is to have a good room temp, too cold and the paint blooms. Also don't be tempted to spray to heavily between coats as once you have a run it's back to the wet "n" dry to get rid of it. Also lightly rub over with a fine scotch pad/cloth between the coats to remove any dust particles and furring.
Spend the time on prepping the wheel first, if once you have sprayed the first base coats on and you can see imperfections, then go back to a bit more sanding with the wet "n" dry as you can always reapply the base.
I didn't bother priming the wheels as I felt there was no need with them already having paint on and of course the best colour primer for silver, is silver to start with.
Leave the final lacquer coat a good 12 hours at room temp (+15°c) to dry, then use a good cleaner polish (autoglym worked fine) and then a decent wax.

Very nice job on the wheels!! Do you know where I can buy centre caps as I have a set on my S2 but have one missing.
Cheers mate
Jase.
Sorry Jase, no idea. IIRC Mille Miglia no longer make the cup 1 reps, and genuine RS2 wheel centres don't fit.
Guess you could get some made from alu ?
