    Whoops... I did it again

Well I was fed up phoning around scrappies to be told nobody in the Glasgow area has any coupes in. So I started scouting for a whole car to butcher myself. Low and behold along came a cheeky wee 2.3 20v J reg and I skipped along this evening to see it.. and bought it. Problem is (and I usually fall down here) my plans for taking a load of parts I need and selling the rest could be pushed to the side if I get it into my head to keep it. The guy was driving it on Friday and it overheated. he reckons the head gasket is gone. Engine still runs and I don't want to damage it but i'm going to move it in the light at the weekend and see how bad it is. Had to buy it tonight so someone else wouldn't get it

So here it is. 5 speedlines, audi sport 3 spoke steering wheel, sony full face cd player, £50 M&S vouchers behind the sun visor (I gave them back), excellent black/grey cloth interior.. I'm not destined to be a very good car breaker I think.

What is it with me and red coupes? it's not even intentional.

that will be my 16v that I turned up in. So no it's not for sale.. yet. Will be when the S2 is road legal though. Funny but even with the S2 i'll be gutted to see the back of the16v. it's a shiny mother chunker alright, courtesy of a respray a few years ago before I bought it. I'm sure the 0-60 in the S2 will take my mind offf it though. Or the messy divorce when my missus finally flips out at my red coupe fetish.

So erm.. head gaskets... how difficult are they to do. Or how much would a garage normally charge? theoretically speaking you understand. It's not for me. It's for.. eh.. a friend. yes, a friend.

I very carefully laid it out in sensible terms when I got home yesterday.. saves me buying bits and bobs from other people & scrappies, driving all over to get them etc. I'll take what I need and break teh rest. make a couple of quid. s2 will be finished sooner, so i'll have more time for her and Gabe (son)...
....and then I got back from buying it grinning like an idiot and babbling about remote central locking and not being convinced the problem was that bad,.. even if it's the head gasket the head prob won't need skimmed.. blah blah.... Of course she gave me 'the brows' and demanded to know if this was going to tun into another bloody project and would they see even less of me.... well I.. erm.. eh... well... um... but... she might have me there.
I need to see how bad it is and decide if it's to be saved or broken. The good thing of course is that there are a lot of common bits on a 20v that fit s2s.

Chris - I'll deal with finland the way I deal with everything. at the last minute. i like teh idea of using 4 cars for the full year of driving. If I can get friends to keep bringin them over and back again i'll never have to register any of them.

with rgds to parts you can be sure i'll be 100% sure I don't need most of it until i've posted it to you. hehe. actually if I break it there'll be loads of stuff on the go. Glad I bought a big garage jack, especially since I sold the engine crane.

Paul - Good thinking that man. Given his natural inclinations in his first year on the planet I'm quite happy that he'd be an asset in the dismantling of cars. Can't say i'd be as happy with the assembling. That said he obviously takes after his old man.
(actually I can't wait until he's old enough to lend me a hand/pass the chocks under the car asking what they are cos they were stuck under the back wheels.

I wonder if there'll be a Fat 80's detailing summer school? The lad could start earning his keep.

You really need to get Gabe started early with the S2, as soon he will grow too big to get his arms into the ridiculous spaces you need to....!
Get him working while his little hands can reach the parts other hands cannot....
BTW can never hear the name Gabe without thinking of Boyd Coddingtons car trimmer of choice.......

Chris - I don't know who the Gabe is from Boyd Coddingtons. Am I missing a quality TV programme by any chance?
I like your thinking by the way. He'll be perfect! I won't need a 4 post lift cos 4 axle stands will do and he'll be able to stand with his head in the engine bay. And what social services don't know.....
