Just spotted something else weird about Hibby's plot - the power & torque lines do NOT cross at 5252rpm... maybe its just my old eyes and this old screen, but ALL plots of bhp and lbft on the same scale should cross at 33,000/(2 * PI).
Note how the stock 7A has same peak power at wheels and the different shape curves.

Its hard to tell because the scales are all a bit whacky, they don't even start at zero.
The values seem fairly sensible to me. At low powers the losses become more of a set value loss and NOT a percentage of power. I would expect it to be around 50 bhp.
22% drivetrain loss on FWD is excessive.
Drivetrain losses are a function of speed (rpm), load (torque) in addition to the static component.
With increasing power/torque, the loss as a percentage becomes lower, since the static component is unchanged.

Nice car. Looks much better cared for than my CQ had been before I got it. Enjoyed reading the thred so far as i'm trying to get ideas for tunning my 7A.
Does any one know how much difference the TSR head make? Just been looking at there web site.

If it's an otherwise standard engine it will not make more than 5% and will be at the top end. These heads breath really well as standard. If you start fitting different injectors and larger MAF to get rid of the main restriction then maybe 10% is possible. Only time you'll see a 15% gain is if you increase capacity to 2.5 litre. Steve Cresswell of C&R enterprises (01159785740) knows these engines well, If you want some honest answers he is your man.

I have fitted the injectors and a good exhaust, so i would hope to see 10%. I would have expected more from a 2.6 though no?
Spoken to Steve before, he knows his VWs and Audis. He helped me when I was struggling with injectors on an old 8V GTI Golf mk.3.
A flowed head cannot hurt but 15% is unrealistic IMO, even with cams you might struggle.
If you want to stay 20V NA then approach it in the same way you would any other car, capacity increase, head, cams, lighter and balanced internals, port matched and flowed IM, EM and correct flow exhaust, match this to a remap and correct injectors or FPR and that's your lot other than cam timing using a pully or pulleys. You'll not second guess power increases much, I got 2bhp off a flowed head on the Golf and 4bhp off an RS2 IC on the S2, there's always something trying to stick a spanner in the works...

Don't forget it's almost all on stroke so it lowers the torque curve down the rev range, getting headline figures up by lots won't happen but compare the torque curves and you'll notice big improvements down low.
