cheers for that Martyn..... you are running standard shocks, yes?...

@Jamo...I remember the thread from when it first appeared and was waiting to see how Dest's car sat with them on before asking the question...

I had them with standard shocks on my old blue one, and they were fine.
The only time they ever rubbed was with 2 adults in the back on a very bumpy B road, and even then it was only a couple of times.

Ive got RS2 shocks on this one

Got round to dechroming the grill today, rather than try to rub it down and spray over the chrome, I thought it had to be done properly!

Very pleased with it, just need to get the polishing finished now...

I think the blacked out grill is cool - with black Audi rings I mean... yours is a halfway house.

Leave the chrome rings, a good balance between the black grill and the elipsoids either side....

I am toying with doing the rings, they are quite pitted so I left them for now... might get some brand new ones and dechrome them.
Much easier than trying to do knackered ones!

Looks good. What did you do to remove the chrome like that?

If you are lucky, there is a bit where its started to peel and you can go from there!
Basically, a very sharp knife or blade, lots of patience, and thats about it.
Get an edge started on the outer side of the grill and then it literally peels off and leaves not a single trace.
The pic above showing where it is white, is exactly how it is after the chrome is removed, its not even been wiped!

Thanks for the tips, it gives a really nice result, much better than a quick rub down and a paint as most would do. I think I'll have a go at this on a spare grill I have.

I just hope I've got the patience to see it through to the end as I would imagine this would take a fair bit of time to peel it all off.

Took me an hour or two. Once you get the hang of it you can get the blade worked under big sections and it comes off in quite big bits.
The worst parts are the corners, as it seems "tighter" on those sections.
Also, peel it in the direction I have done in the photo, then its much easier as it comes straight off right up to the inside edge with no trouble

Not fancy buying the OEM black rimmed grille Dest? (not the RS2 version)
