The green machine is already tucked up in the garage - looking mean and dirty - with the longest job sheet on the windscreen I have ever conjured up for a car in a long time... More on that in another thread - will be phased work for sure though - and 'big red' is going to need some attention along the way to keep me rolling.
It is when you get "addicted" to the transformation and constantly strive for a better and better finish you have to start worrying.

It is sure looking better now, and looks in decent nick underneath all that grime.

Looking good Paul. On the airbox flappy thingy, i removed mine in the 7A with a nut and bolt bodge and havent seen any negative side effects. I dont think its needed unless you live in really cold climates.

        Paul,

And that's how it started, buy a second Audi to ensure further financial strain.

Anyway before you buy new rear discs, think about changing to 5 x 112 for future proofing it with say 16" inch S2 Avus ? Fit good condition second hand A4 rear discs straight on to achieve 5 x112. At the same time fit alloy later VAG model rear calipers if your existing ones are in anyway suspect ?

On the front use S2 hubs which fit straight on with the 2.8 drive-shaft and get the the 280mm 4 x 108 front discs drilled with 4 extra holes and elongate the fifth, ( an original ), hole to achieve 5 x112 conversion in a cheap manner.

Re your comment on the front brakes, the V6 front brakes are single piston as opposed to four pot of the S2 and the front dic thickness is thinner than an S2.

        HTH.

The 17" inch Avus look nice on my V6 Cab, if I say so myself. Just need to work out how to lower the spring perches on the four struts to maintain the comfort, but still lower it ?

Will Big Red be coming downing south ?

        Kind regards.

            Skull,

OMG, I was up too late, you are very correct.

            Paul, diregard rear suspension infomation.

As you say Skull, only applies to FWD.

            Thanks.

            Kind regards.

@David... Are you sure about the single piston statement for the fronts... I always thought that was phased out on the B3s at some point and the twin pot Girling became the normal caliper for all the 276x25mm applications at the front of B3/B4. I'm going to have to whip a wheel off and check now... Hopefully you are right - cos I can donate the twin pots of my S2 if I ever get round to bolting monoblocks onto that.

I got a nice box of old B4 bits from Mr Tonks today but not had much luck so far with compatibility.

Two side indicators are different from mine so I'll need to splice in the wires (or wait until I can source lenses which fit mine).

The cntrl locking pump was a different part number, but pin compatible - it hummed rather positively when I plugged it in, but still doesn't work on my car - likely a stupid broken wire in the loom then. Might have popped a fuse as it doesn't hum anymore. ****** - out with the fault finding books, a multimeter and large hammer.

I'm going to avoid the whole expensive 5 x 112 trauma on this one - at least for now - gonna be expensive enough running three frickin Audis here.

The little knock from left rear corner has gotten worse already and initial inspection did not find anything obviously wrong - so I need time for a proper look - then avoid temptation to upgrade all bush joints along the way.

2.6 have single piston calipers (54), with 280x22 disks, 2.8 have 2 piston calipers, same as the S2, 276x25.

                  Well at least,

I got some bit of it right vis-à-vis the brake set up on a 2.6 B4.

Never realised the 2.8 B4 would be different to the 2.6, and the same as the S2.

                  Everyday's a school day.

Paul, I can empathise regarding the three cars lark, I'm up to four B4s.

I know you will, but if you come across anything of interest with this car, please post it as I'm keen to soak up the info, even though it's an S2 forum.

I don't want to harp, but if you ever trip over the parts, the Avus rims will look good on big red, even in 16" inch.

Our Touran currently has a set of 16" inch Avus on it. Going to fit a set of 18" inch S8s on it to see what it looks like and how it rides and handles.

                  It's a disease.

                  Kind regards.

Well big red has had some long awaited TLC spent on it for the upcoming MOT.

New front discs, pads, carrier dust seals - Same at the back... With a lick of paint on the carriers and quick dekak on the old calipers to improve visuals.

New brake fluid bled through (with handbrake off this time) and the pedal feels mighty already.

                    New FARB drop links

New rear upper wishbones (couldn't be bothered to renew bushes - old bones kept for upgrade if the mood moves me)

I'm now in the process of cleaning up the battery tray and refitting the trim pieces. Some hallion broke the front trim in a past life (which I cannot renew with the radiator in place but it will hold the main cover OK. Someone discarded the battery clamp as well. I dekakked that crusty battery dust you get on the +ve terminals sometimes - I'd forgotten how it stings your nose when you breathe so had to make a quick departure for a mask

Many thanks to Ben @ TPS for sorting most of the parts and ECP as well who supplied most of the OEM brake bits. I've almost spent more on these bits than the car cost me in the 1st place, but this should see it ship shape for daily driver duties thru the winter. I've got a few other things on order which should improve the fun from the old girl, but got some oil leaks to sort out next... then I can turn attention back to the green machine (which must be feeling awful jealous this past while).

Quick phone pic of the battery tray as it was - must have had a spill / leak at some stage as you'll see from lack of paint on one side.

At the bottom of the pic you might just see where the trim has been damaged - it is secured on left side of pic by two screws thru the front panel, but access is impossible with rad in place - so that job will have to wait.

The current battery doesnt have a gas vent, but the tube is still there so when I save up the pennies for a man size battery from herr Bosch then I can restore that.

Pic of the new rear trim corner in place - tucks neatly under the hydraulic fluid bottle like it grew there (again).

While I remember - the front trim has a hole which the parts system calls up a press clip for, but I cannot see how that works as one of the bolts that secures the battery tray would clamp that down perfectly nicely.

For a quick clean up I am going to put some black hammerite on the tray - will get round to a more permanent finish with POSR15 on it if/when I decide to keep it longer term.

Fuel economy - NFI mate - thirsty enough I'd have to say (but not horrendous) - but for all the miles I do per year. Fun is my main motivation for driving... Which is why I wanna put an RS4 RARB on it, lower it, polybush it, decat it and let all that V6 rumble out.

Again, another problem of getting a 'cheap daily driver' and being an enthusiast. I'm in the same seat with my BM. Set of M3 throttle bodies, a stand alone ECU, cams and a seriously flowed head as a starter for 10 (and about 180bhp). Then a 2.1 conversion and a few fancy bushes here and there...
