The only cure I have found is to have kids and multiple cars - then there just isn't enough time or money to fuel your obsession and at least one of the cars ends up being practical and standard (ish).
I bought my CQ as a cheap little project to tool about in while i saved up for an S2...... and now I find myself two thirds the way through building an Ersatz S2 There is no cure for our disease
You neeeeeed to ditch the airbox and the cats on that AAH Paul, they sound beautiful when they have their airways cleared
Lacking that second stage valve is costing you about 30bhp too me thinks matey
I just discovered another lil fly in the ointment tonight - the steering rack has always been a bit 'groany' - and for the 1st time tonight I decided to look at the hydraulic fluid - cos I was cleaning some grime out of that corner while waiting the rust treatment to dry. Much to my dismay unt embarrasment - it is red/brown fluid in there - not the lovely green mineral stuff. I am a **** for not checking this before but hell - who knows how many years it has ran on the wrong stuff. Gonna have to purge the old muck out and get fresh G2000 in there - hopefully no permanent damage to the pump nor the servo.
As to the engine - oh yes it is definitely down on power. Plan is to do some reference runs with the GTech then see what gains can be measured by any tweaks along the way.
Just clean it all through and then run some goo in there for a few k then replace it again. Took me about 3 changes to get nice green fluid in mine rather than grey mush. Much quieter too.
I want a pearl white 90 20v for some reason...

1994 ABY Coupe - Projekt Alpinweiss
So its ready for MOT now - allegedly... Pumped about 1 old of old G2000 thru the system, then another 3 of the new green stuff from Audi just to purge out all the old gunk. Simple if a bit messy - same process as on S2. Oddly enough the RHD V6 shares servo assist brakes and same tandem hydraulic pump as the S2... but an LHD V6 uses a vacuum servo. Strange but true.
Anyway - rough how-to on purging the old fluid simply involves sucking out contents of bottle with a syringe thing (turkey baster or whatnot). Then disconnect the thin hose from bottom of bottle. Fashion a bung for the open pipe on the bottle and then extend the open return pipe into a big big bottle. Top up the bottle and crank up the engine - its amazing how quick it empties the bottle - just a few seconds does it.
I done this enough times until the purges fluid looked sufficiently green.
The groaning noise from the rack has not completely gone, but it is MUCH improved.
Took it a 10 mile run to get the brakes somewhat bedded in... Seems to be braking nice and evenly and by the end of the test run I was able to get the ABS to kick in.
Lovely to drive without the mighty cerlunk noise at the back. Lining up the new rear wishbone was a bit of a phaff - using stock bushes so the ride height needed to be correct before torqueing it all up... Had to drop the car to ground to measure that, then put it back on the stands again for final tighten...
Oh and the battery is finally clamped down - had to modify the clamp a tad so as to work with non OEM battery but that was no biggie - looks nice now with the correct covers in place.
Ive got a 2.8 v6 quattro and ive got a bad oil leak problem, It was put down to a worn rocker cover. Having replaced it it still p***s out left rear corner can any one
help with this ?? ive used silicone (no good) my sump guard and underneath are soaked with oil aswell.
There is a fairly complex crankcase ventilation system on the V6 engines - pretty sure this is where most of my oil sweats come from, though the rocker cover gaskets are supposedly a common problem too. This will be part of my next phase with the car after the MOT (assuming it passes without drama).
All you can do - is try to see how far up the engine you can see the oil - though I know access is very limited to see WTF is going on...
Because of the access issues, and that I know the IM control plumbing is messed about, and cos I really want to upgrade to ABY rack and master cylinder - I really want to pull the engine out but I just be at that sort of milarkey over the winter. Need to get stuck into backlog of jobs on the S2 really so the V6 will have to be content with running repairs.
Rough but effective way of purging old hydraulic fluid... I kept the battery out and started the car with a booster pack - just much easier to work in that area without the battery while refitting the hoses to the reservoir.
Popped the battery back and enlarged a hole in the clamp to make it happy.
Then finally popped on the battery cover - hiding all my lovely hard work. You cannot really see in the photo, but the cover is a nice fit that uses gaps in the reservoir bracket and the inner wing for a nice snug installation when you line it all up sweet.
