Yeah I went to look at this one too at PDS in Belle Vue and also walked away. It didn't have the original service book (but the history/mileage checked out with Audi) and it looked like it had had some paint at some time.

I found the number for the previous owner and gave him a call - he was a doctor and had traded it in to Audi when he bought a new TT - doh!.. but to be fair, the doc. did say he actually preferred the S2 to drive. I think it came direct from the trade in at Audi to PDS (i.e. doc. was listed as the last 'real' owner), and when I told the doctor the price it was up for, he advised he'd traded it in for a few more thousand than that and a few months earlier too. Doc. also said it'd not had paint while he had it... I may be wrong, but I think he may have been the first owner also???

So couldn't work out where it'd been for a few months and why it'd had paint... hence walked away. Shame tho' as it was a little different and low mileage.

        s2

i reckon the mileage on this one is genuine. there was talk for a few years of a real low mileage s2 in newcastle. it went off the radar for a while which is backed up by its 5/6 years of sorn. a few people were aware of this car who weren't specifically s2 fans but knew it existed. i think the rumour was before the current fella got it it may have only done 19K miles.

I also looked at this S2 back in 2000 also viewed at belle vue on team valley in gateshead. I also walked away and bought my lovely black one that i have now cause i wasnt sure on the colour at the time and yeah spec wasnt great and thought it was over priced at £18k so i bought my black one with better spec for £3k less made sense!!! but am not knocking the car lovely colour and ideal for a few tweaks

            Vonbeck maybe?

The comments on the paint is a bit worrying but I guess chatting with the owner before judging is fair. Will respond when that happens and see how to go from there.

No I don't think it's Vonbeck's - I saw his in the flesh at a mini meet in Manchester and I think his mileage was even lower thant the one up north.

Regarding the paint comment I made, I wasn't knocking the car... it looked really smart with excellent all over paint, it's just I noticed one or two (and that's all) points where it looked like there was a speck of dust in the paint - i.e. what you sometimes get with a non-factory respray. I've never seen this on a factory paint job... but please correct me if I'm wrong. The issue for me was less with the paint itself, but more with the uncertainty of when and why it had had paint together with the lack of original service book.

To be fair, I'd have bought the car there and then (I'm a monkey-see, monkey-want type of guy , and this was the first S2 I'd looked at and was VERY keen to buy one ASAP), it's just I was with my brother who is an Audi specialist, and he said hang fire and see what else was around... . In the end I picked up a '94 with 59k miles and FSH and book of receipts, black leather etc for $13k.

...it's really weird to see the copy of the add shaun5 posted... and image/add I remember pouring over again and again... 10 years ago!!!

Im glad you mentioned it Mick.. gosh you've made some good points as did Shaun! Just tried to phone him and the prompt says; 'the international number you've dialed is diconnected.' No email in the ad either so it's already a bump.

I have to take your comments to be valid since you've seen the car yourself. Lack of history and respray just makes me quiver though! I know nothing about paint.. The car has been for sale for a few years now might that say something about it?

The specs are lacking but it isn't the most important issue for me. I've got enough factory option parts to make it high spec. The paint has to be original and the car has to be rust free/accident free with full history.

I've not heard back from Jase but PMed S2Tornado for assistance.
                  Cheers mis amigos,

                        lol@fatty..

just spoke to Martin. Seems like a genuinely nice guy over the phone. Mentioned a few things on the car such as a few specs of rust on the inside of the arch lips.. He has not driven in rain since his ownership which means a previous owner did and this could be the reason. He has owned it since 1999. There are 3 previous owners including the original dealer and another gentlemen whom owned it for a year then it belonged to a doctor for 3years and now in his posession since. Mentioned also that a few gents stopped by to look at it and dinked him around when it came to purchase however one of those guys brought a meter that reads paint debt and told him the paint was fine and as it should be. He recently took it off the market as he is now driving it again but will consider selling at a price he is happy to part with. The car is located at the North part of UK closest to Scotland.

Oh and forgot to say that it is a 1995 build. Martin mentioned that he believes because of that build date it did not come with driver airbag. Is this true? My US specced 1991cq had a driver airbag standard.

Got his email and will update the thread as we talk more. Original Lifestyle S2 shouldn't hold my breath yet right

Who wants to look at it for me when that time comes? I make really good rum cake
